The beer was disappointing. The brett character went AWOL. Maybe the brett will pick up, but by the time it does the hops will be gone.

Bummer. Thanks guys. Unfortunately I already picked up 2 bottles. Maybe I'll have on now and forget about the other in a corner for awhile as an aging experiment.

P.S. DimensionX, I picked up a bottle of this years Ace of Spades...definitely not as good as I wanted to remember it :slight_frown:

sorry to hear it, I had a similar reaction to Pliny the Elder. It was my favorite beer but couldn't get it for a while, by the time I had it again a year later I hated it. I think it is almost a universal truth that IPAs will continue to improve and our palates will continue to evolve for better or worse.

    This ;(

Granted we had all been spoiled on de Garde Brewing's Banks and Spears before this came out, I was hoping for something similar.

I added it under India Wild Ale as DimensionX found since that's actually the name on the bottle. It's a decent beer, but it really lacks in complexity.

I had one last night and contrary to unpopular opinion around here I thought it was pretty good. It has a clean Brett B sweetness that balances out nicely with the hops and malt.

It isn't a hop bomb and it doesn't taste or smell of horse but that could change a little bit as the Brett keeps working in the bottle. Calling it a "wild" ale doesn't quite make sense as this is inoculated with Brett rather than an actual spontaneous fermentation.

Is it similar to Below Grade's Identity Crisis?

Name a beer created outside Brussels that is actually spontaneously fermented. "Wild" is synonymous with Brett these days.

Not sure what you mean by actual spontaneous fermentation but Allagash's sour program, Russian River Beatification, JP Lambicus dexterius, some de garde beers and i believe FW Sloambic are spontaneously fermented to name just a few.

Despite that I do agree with you that American Wild Ale or India Wild Ale is now mostly synonymous with Brett.
