I am seeing this around town now, whats the beat on this beer? Any comparisons? Boozy?

It's worth trying a glass. Not the intense hop aroma/flavor of something like Notorious, but tasty. Perhaps a touch on the sweet side, but it's a TIPA, so somewhat expected.

Thanks, i don't think i will bother unless i am at a place where nothing else catches my eye. The only other so-called "Triple IPAS" i have had are 120 Minute and Notorious. 120 was way too sweet for me. Notorious was just right. This sounds like it is more on the 120 minute side of things.

Safe Word is closer to Notorious than 120 minute. 120 min is in a different category altogether. More like a QIPA.

I had a glass at the pub yesterday, really enjoyed it. Worth seeking out IMO.

I would recommend it if you see it. It's maybe not as overall good as Notorious, but it's still a very tasty beer. The hop aroma is amazing. As long as you like grapefruit. A place would have to have an awesome tap list in order for you to choose other beers over this one.

I think it's a very good beer. It's doesn't taste like bad hoppy sherry like 120 min. Much more in the Notorious realm, and I may even prefer it, but it's hard to remember too many specifics about any TIPAs when they are good enough to have a few.

Now granted I havent had Notorious TIPA yet, but I just tried this one last night after brewing a batch of beer the day before, and this beer smelled exactly like I had just opened a bag of hops and stuck my nose into it. Quite an impressive hop aroma. Dare I say, the most i've picked up in a TIPA. Breakside really nails their hop use. I thought I read something about it on their menu saying that some new hopping method was used for this beer! Althought it did not state what said hopping method was.....Super cascade and citra like. Pretty smooth creamy slick feel to it but definitely finishes with a pretty long enjoyable boozyness from the 11.1%. Not as much hop flavor as the nose would suggest however. Definitely give this one a go! I also had the saison a fleur which was quite interesting and their session IPA was incredible! Great stuff coming from Breakside! Cheers!

I didnt get any connections to 120 whatsoever so if your not a fan of 120 you dont have to worry about this one tasting like it.

We also have to remember that "not as good as Notorious" accurately describes 99% of all beer

Is this only available on draft?

I can't say I've exactly been bowled over by anything I've had from Breakside so far, but this sounds interesting.

Yes, draft only. It was their 100th beer of 2013 and the supply was pretty limited from what those at the Dekum pub told me. Our friends were, somehow, able to finagle a growler fill out of the staff (a credit to their adorable toddler, I'm guessing...) and we got a (reluctant) growlette fill - good luck finding some. It is/was one of my favorites that Breakside brewed last year.

Hopefully it will still be on tap at the brewpub next weekend (the online taplist indicates it's currently available there). Would really like to give this a try.

Still currently on tap at the pub as of yesterday. Unfortunately, I got to the brewpub before they were open, but lucked out when I got to the Horse Brass, and found it on tap there.

After tasting it at the HB, please disregard my previous statement that I have not been bowled over by anything I've had from Breakside.

For those in Eugene, the 16 tons taphouse currently has this on tap as well. 8 ounce pours only; $5 a glass and no growler fills. Looks like the arrival of the keg coincided with their receipt of bottles of bourbon barrel aged Old Woody and aquaviit barrel aged Rise of Quetzecoatl. Cheers!
