After 30 years on South Main Street in Breckenridge, Colorado, it looks like the landlord wants the original Breckenridge Brewpub out. Check out the Twitter thread for the details. https://www.breckbrew.com/visit/breckenridge
I've never been to the Breck brewpub...is it worth a visit before its gone? Do we know the timing of the eviction? Any truth to the rumors that the landlord is evicting due to the AB-InBev buyout?
Hardly see them as 'local' any longer. Regardless, it's the story of any business operating in any of Colorado's ski towns (unless you're slinging designer handbags).
It was jam packed during the snow sculpture competition. Looks like a ragged, cobbled together ski lodge. Food was good for what it is. But we hated the beers. We were reminded why we stopped drinking them to begin with. Only go if you like their stuff, otherwise there's no point.
Ain't that the truth. Didn't Vail Resorts just buy a bunch of smaller resorts? If the landlord is local, and wants tenants to be local, then I like it. *cough Denver*
They bought a bunch more 'mountain resorts,' they don't actually own the towns, but one could make that argument too... I lived in Aspen a long time prior to Denver (although I actually live in Evergreen), and it's a shadow of its former self. It sucks actually. Everything cool, with any amount of character has been pushed out, remodeled and replaced with a high-end clothing store. It's all about the money, but one has to wonder what the effect on the money and visitors will be when everything has been homogenized.
What's the deal with Breckenridge anyway? I don't think I've ever had a decent beer by them. I keep trying, but it seems like everything they make is sub-par. Did they used to be a good brewery and then quality went down as they scaled or something?
Breckenridge certainly isn't bad. I have many fond memories of eating at the Breck Brewpub, mostly before they were bought out. I can't say that I'm not a bit upset with the idea of them going away after so long. In a way, it feels like one of the last remnants of "old" Breck, and was more about culture and community than just dollar signs. Of course, the AB buyout doesn't really fit my narrative.
Some of the comments related to InBev on that Twitter thread are pure asshole. Why shit on a place whose local employees might be out of a job? We loved our time in Breckenridge, but spent most of it outdoors, since I'm allergic to shopping of any sort. The brewpub had good food, the beer not bad but forgettable. I hope they find a way to stay put, that's a long history they have going.
