I know the varieties of roses can run quite a spectrum, but I'm sitting here with a Bitter Monk, and I swear I smell roses. Any other brews out there that smell like this?

I got a huge floral thing from GI Fleur, but thats because they used hibiscus petals. But roses, havent had that one yet.

I guess its the floral notes. I love going to big rose gardens,so I guess because of that I can pick up rose in a wide variety of aromas. "a flower by any other smell" I guess, still it's a very appealing aroma.

SO glad they put out a new batch of Bitter Monk. I made the mistake of only buying one bottle last time and it blew me away, the aroma is just killer. My beer guy said the new batch is more brett-forward which sounds awesome, I'm definitely getting a few to age this time around.

Hops have a compound in them called geraniol, just like in roses.

I mentioned in the other thread that I had the year-old vintage, and I was getting a serious amount of lychee on the nose. Very floral aroma, even with some time on it- so i could definitely see how a fresher batch could smell like roses.

Having cracked my first of two bottles from the new batch, I can confirm that the brett is more forward. It's like a double IPA version of Rayon Vert with a way better hop bill and much, much more complexity. It's pretty much perfect.

no brett, but SN's new Floral IPA.... probably because it has roses in it.
