Chad Yakobson suggests Brett is strongly anti-oxidizing and proposes that it will accordingly delay the dreaded hop drop-off, for a very long time. This was in that very long interview on homebrew radio or whatever it's called. When I have Hop Savant in the house I can't seem to keep my hands off it long enough to find out if this hypothesis is true.

He also says all the hop additions in that beer are whirlpool and dry-hop--he wasn't after IBUs at all, but after hop aroma & flavor.

Wild Devil was good. I hope Victory will bottle Wild Devil in 12oz containers. I enjoyed several White Galaxy bottles by Anchorage this year. Though it's quite pricey and possibly over priced on what I paid for each 25oz bottle. (18$).. Brett ,to me I think, goes well in Pale Ales. Has anyone ever drank Round Guys - Fear of a Brett Planet? It's so easy to drink and enjoy. No funk, just the clean brett in a pale ale. Also 35$ for a case. what a deal

“Has anyone ever drank Round Guys - Fear of a Brett Planet?” I have.

“It's so easy to drink and enjoy. No funk, just the clean brett in a pale ale.” I personally wouldn’t exactly select the word “funk” but: I would use the word “musty” to describe it. It is a mild mustiness but it is noticeable.

At this point in time I am undecided whether “musty” is agreeable to my palate. I will continue to drink this beer; in some instances I need to drink multiple beers of a certain brand to completely formulate my overall opinion of that beer.

    Cheers!

musty implies staleness. I can't really think of a proper word for this beer. definitely not musty.

I am pretty sure these beers are not stale (old). They use an obtuse code on the bottom of the cans: 14G1. I did not get a secret decoder ring when I bought this 6-pack but my ciphering yields: 14 = 2014, G = 7th month (July) and 1 = 1st day of the month; so 7/1/14.

I understand your association of musty with the word stale but when it comes to Brett yeast using normal word associations is usually not appropriate. Brett strains have the ability to create all kinds of weird flavors and the mild mustiness in this Round Guy beer is simply par for the course when brewing with Brett.

    Cheers!

Earthy?, dusty?, and musty is a legit descriptor for brett that doesn't imply staleness in my experience.

    Edit: Beaten by Jack. Again.

I love brett IPA's, although I haven't had a ton of them. The Evil Twin one with yuzu is probably my favorite one that I've had. Wicked Weed is releasing a brett DIPA tomorrow that I have high hopes for!

Really kind of bummed that if I ever have a brewery I can't name a beer "Fear of a Brett Planet".

    Those magnificent bastards.

I hate Brett brews, with the exception of what Wicked Weed has put out, that was actually pretty good. Still could only drink one though Funk isn't really my thing.

PS I have home-brewed brett beers which definitely went through a "mousey" (which I equate with "musty", comes from the Latin word for mouse I believe) stage and one which never came out of said stage. Other people perceived it differently, and enjoyed it; I would have drain-poured the entire keg...

Mixed reviews but I thought the Mikkeller/Prairie collaboration American Style was excellent. Also dig Hop Savant from Crooked Stave...

Yes, 100 percent brett. Wheat or oats would be nice. Ive had great success with 4-6 week fermentation (with Wlp 644) and then a big double dry-hop after that for 5-10 days.

Wicked Weed can almost do no wrong. Man oh man, I hope you get some bottles and enjoy the crap out of that beer! Do it for the rest of us that wish we could :-)

Awesome. I really gotta try brewing one. Along with some table saisons, I can't think of anything I'd rather brew right now.

    E. from Hill Farmstead is a Belgian style IPA with brett and Nelson Sauvin. It makes so much sense when you taste it that you cannot disagree with the idea.

Oh I will be both drinking it on tap and snagging a few bottles! If you want to try it you can probably do so by shooting me a PM

Urine Trouble is pretty good. Had a '14 Wild Devil and was unfavorably impressed--surprisingly; plan to cellar the two remaining bottles of the latter and try them in subsequent years.
