Has anyone been? Is the $50 ticket price worth it? I haven't been able to find a brewery list anywhere.
It was a good time, they served some good food. Nothing notable was being poured, but a great event to support the zoo!
I've not been, but from what I can find on line about prior years, it has had a good, but not particularly remarkable, selection of beers, including the usual local suspects plus a few smaller locals plus some national craft offerings, all have their flagships and / or "entry" craft offerings plus a few those more like us here would buy. If past years are an indication, you will find tasty beers to drink, but you won't likely find anything rare. Is it worth $50? Sure, if you are including in your "worth it" calculation the cause you would be supporting. Not so much if you're just looking for value in great/rare beer that you can't ordinarily get at your local bottle shop. It is a fund raiser, after all. And, the MN Zoo could use the help. Caveat: all of the above is based on prior years write-ups I've found. There are no real details about this year's event... at least not yet.
I went last year and had a blast. As others have noted there is nothing really special, but the money goes to a good cause and you can drink some good beer while watching a bear.
About how many breweries were there last year? I'm not too chuffed about extremely rare beers, but I do like to try stuff new to me that I can actually find again
The most recent complete list I could find was for 2010. In addition to that list, I was able to find that: Deschutes was there in 2011 and in 2013, so probably other years, too. Odell was there in 2013. Here are some photos of the 2011 brochure (by the designer of the brochure, apparently, illustrating the work, but you can see parts of the beer list) Apparently, the MN Zoo could use some help in marketing as well! Perhaps someone still has a brochure from last year and can post more complete information. Or, even better, the MN Zoo can publish the list for this year!
