I don't know if this would be better suited in the General or Homebrew forums, but Mid-Atlantic seemed like a decent fit. I'm interested in learning what it takes to open a Home Brew Store/Brew on Premises location similar to the Brewer's Apprentice in Freehold. It's such a great concept, I wish there were more around like that. I know each individual "home brewer" needed a license, but I think I remember reading that the requirement was going away. Does anybody know what licensing is needed from the ABC, state, or local governments to move forward with opening a similar location in New Jersey? Is it similar to a warehouse or brewery or is it something all its own? Also, if someone is more familiar with this process, what are the approximate expenses and time tables of such licensing? I appreciate any help and or reading material that can be provided. I've looked around a fair amount and can't seem to find anything concrete.

I can't help you, but I'd get in contact with the township in which your interested in opening the shop. Just explain exact what it is you want to open, and what you'd have to get in order to do so. Or, it might be worthwhile asking the owner of Brewer's Apprentice, who might be able to give you a less red tape-ish answer.
