There's been more than one Keurig like brewing system to date, but this one is the latest promising semi-brainless brewing:

Coffee went through a mass consumables phase and it appears that now beer is jumping that shark. So what do you think-- is this good for homebrewing or just another way for those with money to pretend to brew?

The PicoBrew Pico is the US system just hitting the market. I ordered mine this past winter when it was Kickstarter project. The system and associated brew kits look promising. It is far more complex than a Keurig coffer maker. I will update when mine arrives.

GO TIGERS! Graduated with my degrees from there in the late 90's & early 2000's and been a Tiger since birth! Sorry for the threadjack, I just never see a Tiger paw on BA and had to give a shout out  I'm still 30 minutes from Clemson, if you ever want to get together and swap homebrews!

These things always strike me as the answer to a question no one asked. Its like they saw a Mr. Beer kit and thought "you know what people want? This, but 20x more expensive!". I especially like the ones where they seem to think that the real problem with brewing is that you need a way to integrate you iphone into the process.

There's zero opportunity for creativity and experimentation. These systems are for people who want to home brew but not actually home brew.....

My brother has the picobrew that he bought for roughly 2k about 7 months ago. He's a huge dipa/hop head and only brews clones/dual hop recipes of popular dipa's such as Heady, Pliny, Dinner. I personally hate the majority of the beers he produces, but from a quality standpoint; no matter the yeast, grain, or hop make-up (NZ, American, etc.) all his beer looks the same (dark, transparent, brown), have little to zero aroma (even after he claims he dry hops it) and above all, taste the same! Wondering if other people have experienced similar results. He's a bit egocentric and actually claims his beer is of the quality of current NE/Mid-Atlantic DIPA's coming out. He went to the extreme a few weeks back after splitting a KJJJ with me, that his beers were on par with King Jjjulius. But that's a side note that I just deal with. Maybe the picobrew breeds lack of humility as well?. If anyone has experienced anything like this would love to hear your feedback.

Well, if I paid 2K for something I would probably love everything that came out of it too. There has to be some sort of clinical name for that syndrome. I don't necessarily think that the Pico can be blamed for that. It is basically just producing the wort, it could be his fermentation/dry hopping that occurs outside of the product. There was a video review (CNet)of this where they compared the beer produced with the picobrew along with a brew produced by a brewery (Against the Grain I think), same recipe, and the main thing that was commented on was the presence of diacetyl, which to be fair is a fermentation issue, not part of the wort production.
