Thanks so much for the reply! I am running Excel 2013, and I have set the macros to "Enable all Macros". I just opened the newest file you shared, changed the Brewhouse parameters to fit my own and Save. I get this warning:
If I continue, I end up with the inability to use the "Scale!" options. Was the program written with an older version of Excel? Is there a work-around? I just noticed that it worked fine until I "save-as" with a new name (but I didn't change the .xls).
Thanks again for an awesome program!

This is odd. One of the machines I run this on has Excel 2013. So I just downloaded a fresh copy of the .xls and replicated the steps you described. Except there's no problem using the macros after reopening the file.

When you say "inability to use..." do you mean you got the same error message as in your first post? If so, did you happen to check the macro settings (with the file still open) to ensure they are still enabled?

Hi VikeMan ... macros are still enabled. It seems that if I copy the file, rename it, and then open it (rather than "save-as") it works fine. I'll keep you posted.
    Thanks again!!!

Having issues with the newer versions. I use Libre Office 4.1. When I modify the file after downloading, I get lots off calculations errors. Including IBU. Deletes sparge water needed ect. Thoughts?

I've heard from people using Libre Office say it works fine. But you're the second person I've heard from that says they have had problems with Libre Office. I don't have a solution... BC has been designed and tested to work with Excel, OpenOffice, and Gnumeric.

Is it possible to get the password to unprotect certain sheets / cells?

I'd like the option to add sheets for inventory and such, play with the thing.

The xls seems to be missing. When I go to download that version off brewstash it pops up approximately 20 seconds later that the file couldn't be found

    Vikeman,
Your work on Brewcipher needs to be cheered loudly.
Since using this 2.5 years ago my homebrew efforts have improved markedly.
    Thanks so much

I don't know what brewstash is, but there's a link to where I put it in Google Docs at the top of this thread.

Seems to be a brewing software resources links and info on a bunch of different software but the brewstash link still goes back to the drive link you posted.

If it does go back that link, you should be good to go. Or if google drive is being obstinate (though I just tried it and downloaded it), it's also on Dropbox...

Signed up just to ask this question!

I composed a couple of recipes now with Brewcipher (BC). I used to use Brewmate (BM) so I compare these two.

I find that BC constantly predicts a lower pre-boil OG than BM. And I pretty much always hit BM´s predicted OG.

Yesterdays brew BC predicted pre-boil OG to be 1.026. BM 1.034. I hit 1.033.
Any info on why BC predicts lower (and not with reality corresponding) pre-boil OG? What would be needing adjustment?

Also, IBU calculation is a tat different. Where BM says 18,7, BC says 21 (standard Tinseth). BM is also set to Tinseth. Shouldn´t Tinseth calculation always be the same with the same factors?

Well, no biggies. I like the brewsheet, but would like to understand this!

I don't know anything about BrewMate, but...

Is the Post-Boil OG prediction comparable? If so, make sure the Boil-Off parameter matches your system.

Also make sure you're using the same Mash Efficiency parameter for both programs.

If that doesn't solve your mystery, beermail me the particulars if you'd like.

BrewMate´s dekstop app is exactly the same as Brewer´s Friend desktop app. Just some new coloring. So I recon that BrewMate developed into Brewer´s Friend.

Yes, post-boil OG calculates pretty much the same. Even if I use the same boil-off parameters, BC still calculate to much below real value. But how does that affect pre-boil calculations? How much I boil off shouldn't affect what I have to start with, should it?

Boil Off does affect what you would start with. BrewCipher computes what you should start with (and computes the total water accordingly), given your boil-off rate, the post-boil OG you targeted, hop absorption, etc.

To get to the same post boil volume and post boil OG, with a higher boil-off rate, you'd start with a higher volume of lower OG wort than you would with a lower boil-off rate.

Beermail me (start a conversation) with actual examples of what you're seeing if you really want to get to the bottom of this.
