I want to brew homemade soda to have on tap for the kids during T-day weekend. I could keep it simple and mix some ginger ale and light pulp OJ and carbonate it for Orangina, or make pomegranate soda the same way. But I thought it would be fun to do something more classic like root beer, ginger beer, or cream soda. Have any of you done this and used yeast to help carbonate it an add complexity to the flavor? And have it on tap?
I've taken a crack at a couple of homemade root beers lately. I'm not happy with the recipes yet. I'm trying NOT to add more sugar. This one tastes very refreshing, and quite a bit like tea: http://www.homebrewtalk.com/f95/i-need-rootbeer-recipe-supplier-362079/ This one is earthy, complex, and tastes a bit gritty: http://nourishedkitchen.com/homemade-root-beer-recipe/ If you can spring for sassafras and sasaparilla, I'd recommend that. They have a great aeromatic to them, if nothing else. Wintergreen will probably need to be bought at your LHBS. Good luck! McMasters car parts also has a set up so you don't need 30' of bev line. I think I posted that on here within the last week, or search homebrewtalk.
