Is it common for breweries Not to respond to inquiries and emails on their websites?

I've shot off messages to Midnight Sun and New Belgium using their websites and have never receieved a response back.

    Is it just me?

Nah, I think most are like that. In the past I couldn't get ahold of Sweetwater, and earlier this summer I sent an e-mail about a bad bottle to a brewer in NC. Didn't hear a damn thing back- until I posted here about the bottle, then out of thin air, I got a response, and had a relatively open line of communication from then on.

Nope, not just you. I've sent emails to Stone and Avery inquiring in what I thought was a very diplomatic manner about a concern, but no response. Those two instances have stuck in my mind for some reason. Probably because I'm a loyal consumer of both brands. But I also realize things get shuffled around and lost in the logistics of everyday work, and you can't always be certain someone who cares is on the receiving end of an email, so a respectful follow up would probably be in order. I guess what I'm saying is it's best not to take it as a personal affront. Most breweries are well intentioned and get it, although some might be getting a bit too big for their britches too.

I thought I had a bad reaction to a bottle of an Avery beer and emailed them about it. They hadn't heard any other complaints, but appreciated that I brought it to their attention. Told me to bring the email in to the tap room for a free beer... I did and they ended up giving me a few bombers. That's customer service.

It ended up just being my crazy stomach, I think.

I emailed Victory about 2 months back, with a bottling date question. Heard back within a day.

I have heard back from Stone on emails before. I just sent one to Alpine on flat Pure Hoppiness, let's see if I hear back from them.

I have sent emails to a hand full of breweries with various questions or concerns and have heard back from nearly all of them. New Belgium was not only prompt in their response, they want above and beyond what was necessary when responding to my concern.

DFH , SN, Saranac and Wolavers all responded to my emails within days. Wolavers was years ago do nsure now how they are today. All offered me free swag but all I wanted to do was let them know of issues I had, opening chipping upon opening, small shards of glass stuck to bottles, off tastes and a bottle with a big indent in it. SN even sent me a box mailer to send the beer back to them. I drink them all regular except Wolavers.

    Enjoy

I emailed Tod Mott at Portsmouth about a recipe of one of his beers and he replied with a very detailed recipe(not Kate). Also emailed Sam Adams when they were selling hops to small breweries at their cost during the hop shortage a few years back about aquiring some for a homebrew club. Jim Koch emailed back quickly that his intention was to hopefully help a brewer to stay afloat and that pro breweries would get first priority.

DFH is the best by far, they emailed me back within 48 hrs about an issue I had.

Thanks guys. It seems to be hit and miss. I didn't have any pressing issues, just a couple questions about product and their employment practices. Though for New Belgium I had a quality control issue I was interested in. I was just amazed that they did not respond and did not even send an auto response email.

I emailed Left Hand on 7/24 and haven't received a response. On the flip side, I emailed Southern Tier on Friday at 10 am and had a response within an hour. Kudos to Southern Tier. Shame on Left Hand.

Not that it is right but I do believe that breweries will pick and choose the emails they respond to based on content. It is hard to tell from your brief description but it seems likely that you had general questions. It appears that breweries find it more advantageous to respond to customer concerns first while general questions unfortunately get pushed to the backburner. FWIW when I contacted NB it was with a quality concern issue and I was very impressed with their response.

if one ever wants to waste their time, write Hair of the Dog!!
never contacted DfH so can't dispute that but i'd personally have to attribute this same statement to North Coast - i received a reply the same day, which was bumped up & Reudrich himself responded back in less than 24hr.
