Locally - the coffee shops are filled with women at all hours of the day. They gravitate towards the places like a lot of my friends gravitate towards breweries. They get together, drink, talk and compare lives etc.

A brewery has added the coffee to get both 1/2's of the equation in the door. Men with beer (some women too) and women with coffee (some men too). It's about streams of revenue for a lot of places. As mentioned in the article.

As a homebrewer - I admit to being intrigued by trying to roast coffee myself. Much more than making cheese (and I live in Wisconsin) that a lot of HB shops also cater too.

This is a great idea, would like to see this locally. Financially, it makes the best use of space during what otherwise would have been downtime. For the customers, it works great if our spouses/significants are non-drinkers that like coffee/tea and could get it while you have a beer. Also room to bring in some bagels and/or rolls from a local collaborating bakery. Lastly, would be great if they also served breakfast beers, and possibly even mimosas.

I think it's a great idea. I know for me coffee and beer go hand in hand.

I've actually thought many times that I would love to open a place like this. I love good coffee and good beer, so it makes perfect sense to have it be a coffee shop in the morning and a craft bar at night. Sounds like a place many people would like to go to.

Honestly, life is about coffee, water and beer. Makes sense. That's really all you need.

I actually tried to start one of these years ago but the location fell through. I tried to do it later without an actual brewery, more of a bottle-shop thing, but the neighborhood civic group shot down my liquor licensing. It's definitely a great idea though, especially under one roof as the brewers are generally already there in the morning.

Funny this topic is coming up, about 5 years ago I was talking with my wife and said it would be awesome to open a coffee shop brewery, sell coffee till 11, then beer till close. It sort of goes hand in hand especially with making stouts and other coffee based beers. Plus I always see a connection between coffee lovers and beer lovers, they seem to be one in the same for a lot of people.

Obsessed with minor presentation and flavor details that are probably more in their head than the actual drink in front of them.... yeah I can see the connection too.

Coffee is what lead me to get into beer. Both are beverages that I got a little bit more picky about each passing cup. The first beers I distinctly remember considering an experience were two coffee beers. Lovely stuff.

It's still my dream to do a "cupping" event, but with single origin coffee beers. Just imagine a table full of Speedways with various single origin coffees, and walking about trying to pinpoint which coffee is which. Sounds like an absolute dream from my perspective.

I would not be targeting those people, I am referring more to the black coffee guys/girls with a little sugar and creamer. Not the Frap crowd lol they tend to lean towards Zima and Wine Coolers LOL.

If your not already you need to home roast. You can order fresh green coffee from all over the world, its 1/2 the price, and you will never drink any other coffee after that. Takes 9-11 min to roast 16oz of the best coffee you can get.

I've toyed around with the idea, but I only drink coffee on the weekends (don't feel like waking up half an hour before work to boil water and do a pour over), so I tend to stick with local roaster stuff when I buy coffee once a month. Plus, it's an excuse for me to visit a coffee shop

My brother is pretty darn into coffee, so maybe we can make a green coffee order and roast some over the holidays. That'd be a pretty fun experiment.

It's really easy and cheap, you can get a pound of single origin for like 7 bucks. I don't do the pour over stuff, I just roast whole beans and grind for my automatic coffee maker as needed, usually a single roast lasts me all week for my AM coffee so not too bad.

Not bad at all. I did a quick search for green coffee, and came up with around the $7 mark for most pounds of coffee. I might really go this route.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may actually have a week off around Christmas, so I'll be going through coffee pretty quick for me during that week! It's time to stock up, haha.

    Cheers.

I highly recommend the Bonavita electric kettle. It heats water in about five minutes, so you could have a pour over in ten.

I love this proliferation of the combination of coffee and beer production. Modern Times has been killing the coffee game since their inception (I am subscribed, and their BA beans are awesome, and Black House is a brilliant blend).

On a side note, Dark Matter in Illinois is blending beer and coffee in a slightly different way by fermenting coffee with beer yeast and hopping coffee. Their Citra cold brew is awesome.

I was considering that kettle last year, but never ended up pulling the trigger. I just use a Hario V60 on the stove. If the Bonavita is really that fast, I may reconsider. It'd be nice have my morning cup back.

This Dark Matter coffee work sounds interesting! There have been a few places around here serving coffee from the tap with hops, but I'm not sure how it was hop'd.

P.S. Got to try Black House a few weeks back, as one happened its way into my hands. Delicious and delightful to say the very least.
