Yeah there are those people, but....
...I am suspicious of the other [geeky/nerdy] end of the spectrum too... Not that I advocate for Maxwell and Folgers any more than I do Budweiser or Coors, but some details coffee nerds obsess over are strikingly similar to the details beer nerds obsess over.

Coffee in the morning and Beer at night here.

You should really look in to cold brewing coffee. I am not going back to hot coffee methods now that I have seen the light.

Some places have cold pressed/brewed coffee on tap. That way you can infuse your beer with it.

I am sort of at a loss for where your coming from. We have been chatting about coffee and beer and how the two are starting to collide as their popularity grows. You have pointed out a few times that a lot of people in both worlds are geeks/nerds and over the top with regards to both. I think that is maybe true for a % of the crowd but is that not true for anything out there. You can say that about hunters, sportsmen, football fans, cooks, etc. Don't they all have obsessed people.
I think what most of us here enjoy is good beer and for this thread good coffee. I don't stand in lines or take trips to get beer or coffee, I just happen to enjoy very good beer and coffee and won't settle for trash that most think is just great. Most people due to ignorance think folgers is world class and bud light is the best beer around. I don't judge them or criticize them I just know they are missing out on the good things out there.
Anyway, not a big deal just noticed you seemed to be mocking people posting here. I may remind you that your on a beer site that is focused on beer and all things beer, what do you expect to read here? And why are you a member if your not one of the very people you seem to be sitting back laughing at as we obsess over our beer. I sort of find that aspect comical that your calling us nerds but are in here reading and posting....

@AZBeerDude72, what method do you use to roast your own coffee?

My local micro began as s coffee house and then Costa opened up next door.So it became a micro pub which served coffee too. The coffee is superb and I usually conclude a visit with a large cup

Whirley Popper. I use it on the burner on my BBQ, it roasts perfect and cost me under 20 bucks. You can get them online at major places. Just an FYI roasting coffee produces a lot of smoke so please don't do in your home, just an FYI for anyone trying this please do outside. :-)

Amen on the home roast - I'm on my 2nd Behmor 1600 roaster. I have been roasting 5lbs of Papua New Guinnea Kimmel Pea berry every two weeks for about 10 years now. Can't drink anything else. Northern Brewer has one of these roasters - I saw it sitting on a bench at their Minneapolis store. If you are a home brewer i suspect you can get one of Behmor's drums with a tighter mesh which would allow you to roast malt. Fresh roasted malt adds another dimension to your beer - like the difference between fresh baked bread from the oven and bread from a store shelf in a plastic bag.

In a similar vain, Hotbox Roasters (aka Oskar Blues Brewery) aged Ethiopian beans in a bourbon barrel. It sold out pretty quick though, and they haven't done another run of it. Maybe we'll see it again, as I think it was released around December/January last year.

Will have to keep my eyes open, love that beer so the coffee would be big time bonus.

You can get a dozen or so blends and single origins from their online store at any one time. They just happened to do a single origin bourbon barrel aged for two months last year. I think it was around the BA Ten Fidy timeline, but I'm not sure it was the same coffee used in their Java Ten Fidy. Regardless, I want to try the barrel aged beans once, even if I'm paying a premium. It's worth an experiment.

I am the same way, I always like to sample odd stuff so I don't mind paying a little more for things like this that are once a year or so, its cool to sample.

Those who live, like I do, in the New Paltz/ Mid Hudson Valley region likely thought the same thing as I am now thinking when they saw this thread. Mudd Puddle in New Paltz is a fantastic coffee/b'fast place near the river, and it is also where the owners, talented brewers, had the idea to brew beer and serve it at the same location. It is how Yard Owl, who make some great Belgian inspired beers, came to be. It worked so well Yard Owl now has a tap room and larger brewery in Gardiner.
