Hello peeps, I'm gonna be staying in Palo Alto the weekend of 11/18. Do you guys have any recommendations for breweries/bars around the area? Places around Santa Clara and San Jose as well. Oh and I'm going with a friend who likes wine so if you know any places around the area where we can go wine tasting or just has a good selection of wine that'd be really helpful as well. Thanks!
beer bars near Palo Alto: Rose and Crown: In Palo Alto, brittish style pub with decent taps. Walking distance from Stanford, kinda divey. Harry's Hofbrau: In Redwood City. great beer selection, but filled with dusty 80 year olds eating mashed potatoes and beef cuts. I like it, but it's not for everyone. Bar is somewhat separated from restaurant, sit outside if weather permits. Also one in San Jose, but I've never been. San Jose: Good Karma: Vegan restaurant (food is great, even if you're a carnivore like me). Great beer. Original Gravity: directly across street from Good Karma Can't help you on the wine stuff...
Ale Arsenal and Alpha Acid aren't too far away. Ale Arsenal is my go to beer bar in the area. Janes beer store in Mountain View is solid if you want bottles. If you go to Good Karma, ISO Beers and Terminal Gravity are in walking distance. Also down that way, South Winchester BBQ is worth a visit. For wine there are quite a few wineries in Los Gatos or, if you have time, over towards Santa Cruz. Not sure about wine bars though.
^^^ agree with this...make the trip to ale arsenal and alpha acid. everything else on the peninsula pales in comparison imo. gourmet haus staudt in redwood city is close and has good beer and german food. taplands in santa clara is a pretty cool spot too. there's also a nice taproom in the new santa clara whole foods
Downtown SJ - ISO is top notch, as is Original Gravity. Harry`s Hofbrau, on Saratoga is excellent. Smokeaters Wings (Cupertino and Santa Clara) have good selections. Mountain View - Steins in the lively Castro street restaurant scene is near Jane's Beer Store. Santa Clara - just opened is The Halford. Also relatively new is Taplands. Whole Foods in downtown SJ, Santa Clara, and Cupertino all have in house brew pubs. Sunnyvale - Vino Vino has a few taps, along with a good wine selection. Eureka Burger in both Mountain View and Cupertino offer good food and 30+ taps.
Thanks for all the recommendations guys! I'll make sure to hit a few of these places, while I'm there
