I'm headed to Hudsonville MI today and was wondering what cool local breweries were close, other then New Holland of course!
Founders, Brewery Vivant, Grand Rapids Brewing Company, The Hideout in GR. Bells in Kalamazoo. Dark Horse in Marshall. Odd Side in Grand Haven. Greenbush and Tapistry in Sawyer. The Livery in Benton Harbor. Choices...
Pike 51 is great. 15 taps or so, I have yet to get a beer there I didn't really enjoy. The Kush IPA & all of their Belgian style beers (usually 2 or 3 on tap, Topless Trip Out is my favorite) are excellent. White flame is very close but I didn't care for that place so much. Being so close to downtown GR (20 minutes) you should probably head that direction
Osgood Brewing in Grandville does a good job with their beer and the food. That's just up the road toward GR from Hudsonville. http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/32020/
In my top 3 favorite breweries of Michigan. Don't sleep on this place....they always have some kind of barrel-aged goodness on tap!
Just the opposite for me. Don't care at all for Pike 51, but really liked White flame and have chosen WF multiple times while living about 5 minutes away from both. Try 'em both! But yeah, go East to GR and hit up Founders. It will be the best of the trip for sure! Enjoy!
Haha! Was trying to quote from my phone....and didn't delete enough... I was talking about The Livery in Benton Harbor! Love.that.place.
I've never heard of that place, but I'll be driving by it next Friday between FFF and Founders. Might have to stop there for lunch.
Do it! They haven't bottled in quite some time (2 years ago, I believe) and when they did, it was on occasion and very limited. For now, they are tap only but will do growler fills of most beers. (32/64 oz.) They always have barrel-aged beers offered. They actually have some legendary (I use the term loosely) beers in the Bourbon Cask Aged Wheat Trippelbock (retired, but some Grand Reserve exists still, I believe) and the Verchuosity (fruited sour, and they just had the Grand Reserve on tap a week or so ago!). They may not update their tap list daily...or even for a few days, but that just tells me that the mainstays are rockin' and something special is up there on the hand-pull. Worth checking out, for sure. Food is pretty good too.
Also. Why good craft liquor stores are there? On the off chance I can find stuff that doesn't make it to Indy?
Mega Bev in Marshall (Dark Horse), Battle Creek (Arcadia), or Kalamazoo (bells, tibbs, gonzos, olde peninsula, beer exchange. If u check out any of those places, hit up a mega bev for Michigan only bottles to take back with u. Great selection
White Flame and Pike 51 are both in Hudsonville, maybe a half mile apart. I skip right over Pike 51 though, too pretentious and stuffy, I can be myself at White Flame.
