I think previous iterations have been closed.

Feel free to post news about openings or expansions of New England breweries.

This is a nice summary about what is happening this year in an area that is really starting to blow up. I would say there are at least five breweries to really keep an eye on. Big things planned for 2020.

I thought about this. Technically it is a title so I thought the capitalization was appropriate.

Damn I had no idea there were that many places way out west. I suppose I'm not doing anything to dispel the stereotype of us coastal folks thinking the state ends somewhere around Framingham :grimacing:

Some pretty notable ones at that.
Vanished Valley, Brick and Feather, and Rustic are great.
Great Awakening is supposed to be right up with them (if not better) when it opens in the spring.
It is tough to get all the way out there but soon it could be worth it just for a beer trip.

We're hoping to get out to Mass Moca and/or Tanglewood this summer so I'm definitely bookmarking that list (and your recs). I've had Amherst, Building 8 and Hermit Thrush and enjoyed all of them to varying degrees.

Add Honest Weight to that list as well. Across the street from MoCA is Bright Ideas, not bad, and a bit to the south is Shire.

As has been said, the quality of beer in western Mass is quite high, but the places tend to be a bit more spread out.

Also in that area is Spirited -- a real nice package store where you'll find a good variety. However, Vanished Valley, Brick and Feather, and Rustic only sell from the brewery.

What happened to Vanished Valley? I feel like two years ago the hype train was pulling out of the station but hardly hear anything about them anymore.

Pretty frequent availability in Boston area for them in the last few months.

I think they are still relatively small scale. They are brewing out of a small shack behind a restaurant.
However, they bought out said restaurant late last year and are currently doing a massive buildout.
There will be a major increase to beer production plus a full restaurant.
    It should be pretty awesome.

Ah cool, didn't know. They used to announce deliveries to local spots but then stopped, so I just assumed they went back to brewery-only. Sorry for the misinfo!

I see VV cans at Julio's frequently.

I thought they were trying to scale up production through contract brewing at Berkshire Brewing, and the quality slipped. At this point it seemed like a lot of the buzz died down. I thought they scaled back down to have more control over the process and are now expanding on their own. I am not sure if that is completely true, just something I remembered seeing.

    If accurate, this makes sense.
The weird thing is, I live closer to the brewery than Boston by a long shot. My liquor store gets a ton of stuff but I have never seen their cans.
Also, is this just the life of a brewery now? You open a brewery, good beer, good buzz, turn three, new brewery opens with good beer and good buzz, buzz dies for you the "old guy" on the block.

Kismet Brewing Company in Westfield, MA opens to the public for the first time today. It looks like To-Go can sales only and that might be the business model for a while.

Vanished Valley in Ludlow, MA just announced their new taproom opens tomorrow. The Facebook post does say something about temporary limited capacity that I don't fully understand so give that a read if you plan on going sometime soon.
