It is an ego thing to some people. Apparently, if someone does not like their beer, they are a hater or someone just trying to cause problems. Instead of looking at the overall issues that not many people liked your beer, maybe you are doing something wrong. Change your beers. You have a taproom, put experimental stuff on tap and see what people think of it. Have pieces of paper that people can rate your beer and give honest feedback on it so they do not need to talk to you in person about it. Take criticism seriously. Hell, have two beers that are similar to compare to each other. Have an IPA? Have 3 on tap and see which people like the most.

But, you stuck to OK beer that a lot of people did not like.

Hell, I do not run a brewery. If I did, I would listen to consumers about my mainstays and what they like.

They had a bad start which gave them a crappy reputation. I tried the Texas Lightning IPA when it first came out and it tasted like bitter dirt. Never went back. I feel brewing beer can be tough since a lot of people will not give you a second chance when there is such a monster selection out there. Even harder to survive when you are going up against Karbach, Saint Arnolds, Buffalo Bayou and 8th Wonder. Sucks they couldnt pull it off .. terrible location in Mo city as well that place is not the best for any business.

On a different note, Orf Brewing in Austin (whose name has been around for years) has a location in SE Austin near Independence.

One more thing as I was thinking more about it, this just goes to show the market will undoubtedly weed out the unsustainable/struggling breweries. If you put out what most consumers consider a subpar product, and don't make any changes to make it better, you get what's coming to you. After reading the FB post, and seeing the comments, it's clear that the tried to blame this on everyone but themselves.

Just curious as to what opinions might be out there, based on TX-Badger's comment, are there any other breweries in Texas that people feel this will happen to in the near future?

Without knowing the financial situation behind each of them, it's tough to know how long they would be able to survive unsuccessfully.

I will say, I never hear much of anything from Texian, I haven't bought their beer in a long enough time I can't say with certainty it is always available at Specs downtown and I don't know if I have ever seen them at the bigger beer bars.

I have liked some of Texian's things...I know they had some carbonation issues at the beginning, but I think that has been mostly worked out.

I have a list of ones I would not be surprised if they closed this year, but I rather not put it out there. I am expecting 2-3 more to close this year. Along with 30+ opening.

I've actually liked a couple as well, really was speaking more to a lack of presence from my point of view that led me to throw their name out there out all of the Houston area breweries.

Texas Big Beer, Texas Beer Refinery, Circle Brewing, Pedernales, and Rogness all seem heading in the same direction IMO.

I've liked everything I've had by them. I really liked Charlie Foxtrot and their brown ale. But yeah, I wish I would see their beer around more often.

I like Texian and hope they stick around. What about B-52 and Cyclers? I never see them around. Also, does anyone buy Deep Ellum anymore? I know they went through some bad publicity not too long ago.

Edit: Never mind about B-52. It looks like they are just now starting to ramp things up. I guess I have been hearing about them for a while.

My GF is friends with the wife of one of the founders and we're supposed to go to their opening, which appears they are aiming to have in March. Looks very likely to be making that estimate gauging by pics on their facebook page. I thought that I had seen their brews listed somewhere before, but not now. Not sure what their initial brews are going to be. They are going to be distilling liquor as well.

We hit Lone Pint, B-52 and Southern Star for my birthday. B-52 was easily the hit of the day. I had low expectations because their concept seems kind of forced, but they have a solid lineup and I have yet to be disappointed. Unfortunately, I haven't seen it in Sugarland, but they are regularly at the Houston Saucer.

On Rotation is sorta open. They have been in soft opening mode but not pouring their own yet. 40 taps. Growler fills work. I think they are shooting for late February for the grand opening and tapping their own.

I thought Tupps was open and brewing/pouring? There were local news stories a couple of weeks ago saying they were opening the day following the interview?

It isn't perfect by any means.

TUPPs looks like they had a ribbon cutting, but that is about it:

    https://www.facebook.com/TUPPSBrewery

On Rotation - until they start making their own beer, I won't consider the brewery open.
