According to the Brewers Association there are 900+ registered "breweries in planning" Is there a list of them? is it available to the public? I'd like to check out the list, if one exists, to see if there are any local-ish breweries planning to open. If so, I'd be able to follow their website/blogs/social media, and keep updated on their progress. Thanks
Brewers Association Membership List pdf has a number of them (5 pages worth) listed under "Brewery in Planning", alphabetically under 'B' - unfortunately, city/state is listed but not names.
Thanks Jess, I just searched the document for a few cities in my area, I ended up finding a few new breweries that are in planning and one that opened already and I didn't even know about!
I've seen some that appear for a few years and never get out of the "planning" stage and then disappear, too (or maybe they just move to another city/state). These are listed as "members" - I wonder if that 900+ figure includes non-member potential breweries, as well?
I figure that's the case more often than not. Breweries enter the planning stage, then they stall out when it gets to the funding stage, but at least there's a little hope now for a brewery in my city. There's 60 listings per page, and 42 pages, so that would make about 2500 or so listings. It would seem that not all breweries in planning are listed, and non-members would have to be included in that 900+ figure.
Blind Bat Brewery is one to look for but it may be NY local. he specializes in smoked beers (and damn they are tasty) but working a full time job and keeping it all in his garage left him low on the supply side with bottling being rare. He recently sent out an e-mail saying that he is ready to go full time with his brewing and is looking to expand.
