Headed to Richmond (Ashland specifically) and trying to find a few good places to hit while there. I know Hardywood Park is good, but 25 min away and don’t have a rental car, so not sure if that will work. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

The big 3 are Triple Crossing, The Veil, and The Answer. I'm sure people more local can give some more under-the-radar spots.

I believe COTU and Intermission are up there (north of rva) near Ashland and are fine.
But if I were visiting the area I would find a way to get the 20ish mins to some of Triple Crossing/Veil/Answer.

Certainly not an expert on the Richmond area but I would echo the above. Triple Crossing/Veil/Answer are all worth seeking out.

How do you plan on getting around if not rental? Do you have transportation or plan to Lyft/Uber? The 3 main knowns have been mentioned but outside of that Final Gravity is my go to every time I visit RVA. I live an hour away and go to RVA at least 1x/month usually. It's outside of RVA proper but the closest RVA brewery to you if you're going to be in Ashland. If you plan to Uber/Lyft and want to be around a good concentration of breweries without needing to be driven all over then just drop in Scott's Addition and you have multiple breweries within walking distance. (Veil, Vasen, Starr Hill, Ardent, etc..) If you might head downtown I would definitely say Richbrau as well. Triple Crossing's downtown taproom isn't too far away either and about 10 mins closer than their larger Fulton spot. I actually prefer their OG Downtown location. Smaller and has a better brewery feel imo. If you plan to check out Veil keep in mind their original location on Roseneath Rd. is closing after this weekend (it will be their production facility - no longer a taproom) and they are opening up their new taproom a couple blocks away (1509 Belleville St.) during their 7th Anniversary on Apr. 22nd.

If you want places closer to Ashland you have Origin Beer Lab right there which is the satellite location for Center of the Universe Brewing which is also in Ashland. Different beers at both places. There's also Intermission Beer not too far away as well. It's been a while since I have visited any of these but they were decent. Nothing mind blowing but good stops if you're in the area and want something convenient.

I'm not sure The Veil would have been the first place to check out of the Richmond spots but...

Made it to The Veil and The Answer. Beers were great at both. Very cool atmosphere and good crowd at Veil. All of the IPA’s were phenomenal.

Answer seemed kind of dead but was a cool place and great beer. Their German chocolate stout was incredible.

    thanks for the recs!
