One of my favorite local breweries in the NW (Mac and Jacks) doesn't bottle any of their beers and it's a shame because I would clear the shelves if I saw them in stores. Any one else have this problem with their favorites?

Around 90% of our breweries don't bottle. That forces me to go out to the pub to find their beer

I have had Boneyard beers quite a bit as they almost always seem on tap here in the portland area. But they don't bottle yet. I feel your pain.

My local doesn't bottle - Titletown Brewing but they're kicking off a major expansion and IIRC they're putting in a canning line.

    This is good and bad.

    1. Good because I can now take their beer with me all over the place.
    2. Bad because I'm now tempted to not stop in as much but I doubt it for some reason.

I kno it shouldn't b a money issue because I've been to the brewery and seen their operation. They seem to have more demand then their operation can handle.

Tired Hands and Wicked Weed (those two come to mind right away) - they don't normally bottle, but take some batches (wicked weed more so), and barrel age them for special releases...

Maybe the real question is, what breweries only bottle, no kegs or draft?!

There are two really good brewpubs in my city that don't bottle, and it's a shame because I'd probably buy their product on a weekly basis. It's a hassle to drive to the brewpubs all the time, plus it costs more.

The reason is profit margin. That is it.

Plus a high quality bottling line is expensive.

Seems like you have your answer. If I owned a brewery, and I already had more demand than supply without bottling/canning, then why would I bother?

This highlights what I think is the biggest difference between US and UK beer culture (never having been to the UK mind you), and I'm curious about it.

Let's say we all can agree that pubs aren't necessarily the best place for children to spend multiple hours several nights a week. And let's also say we can agree that parents of young children would like to drink the full variety of good beer that's available locally, but they also enjoy spending time with their kids. How do parents in the UK deal with this conundrum?

why do you think pubs aren't the best place for children? Most British pubs are very family friendly, usually have gardens, and some even have play sets.

Don't spend multiple hours several nights a week in pubs with your kids. It's pretty simple. You don't need to spend that much time in a pub weekly to be able to sample a good representation of the local beers in the area.

Are you arguing that pubs are the best place for children, or just not the worst? Those are two very different things. There are gardens and playsets near many places I wouldn't bring kids, if I had them.

Mac N Jacks definitely doesn't have a money problem. Same exact scenario goes for the other Seattle, draft only brewery of note... Georgetown Brewing. It's strictly their choice and business model not to bottle.

I was asking the previous poster to explain their comment.

You are not that previous poster.

Some breweries around San Diego should definitely donate their bottling lines to Societe. They certainly aren't putting them to good use.
