There are plenty of bars that are kid friendly, in fact I can't think of a bar I frequent that I wouldn't bring my kids to. Now I wouldn't bring them there on a Friday or Saturday, or after say 8pmish, but I wouldn't hesitate to bring them.

Not too mention that Europe is way way less uptight about drinking than the US. Pubs are different there.

Yeah, breweries that have a big restaurant and bar penatration like Mac n Jack's and Georgetown really have no reason to start bottling when you think about the cost and smaller margins.

Georgetown's Manny's Pale Ale is in probably 90% of the greater Seattle area restuarants and bars. And that might be a little low. :astonished: Mac n Jack's isn't far behind. Georgetown Brewery is alway pretty busy. There seems to always be a steady stream of people picking up growlers & kegs. They have coolers full of prefilled growlers ready to go and I'm guessing they blow through the coolers every day.

    Keep is simple and profitable.

I haven't proposed a "premise". I was asking for clarification of the OP's meaning. Why don't you go back to your knitting and allow the OP to clarify what they meant?

You won't answer my question. Just say that instead of trying to insult me with some foolishness. Ignore function on.

I said "why do you think pubs aren't the best place for children? Most British pubs are very family friendly, usually have gardens, and some even have play sets." This is NOT setting a premise. This is asking for clarification. If you don't understand that difference, you must be desperately stupid.

I don't think pubs are the best place for children because it probably isn't the healthiest thing for kids to spend extended amounts of time around adults whose primary occupation is drinking alcohol. My daughter is 7 and she has outgrown play sets. She's also very observant concerning human behavior.

I'm not saying I never take my family to pubs, or places where people drink; I'm just saying that if I limited my beer consumption mostly or only to times when I did that, I would be able to sample only a tiny fraction of the beers that are available to me locally. Bottles and cans give me the best of both worlds; I can enjoy a tasty beer almost every day of the week without having to drag my family to a pub. Win/win.

This seems to have become increasingly the case with all of the small breweries opening. This makes it tough, especially, when you are not a big fan of growlers. Bottling becomes an added expense that many of the new breweries on a shoestring budget are not ready to take.
This is one thing we are seeing more of as the barriers of entry are now very low. There didnt use to be near as many breweries, but most were born as products of significant planning and investment.

It would be simple if I didn't want to try most of the beers that are available for purchase in my area, most of which are available only in bottles/cans. I don't know what things are like where you live, but every week around here there are probably on average 5 or 10 (let's say 7) new beers available that I want to try, probably even more, and that doesn't even include the one-offs at breweries etc. Since every pub carries only a handful of beers on tap at a time, and most of those are not the new releases but rather the regular local standbys, my best bet to try most of the beers I want to buy is to get them at a bottle shop, for consumption at a time and place of my choosing.

The whole thrust of my first post (about UK/US beer culture) was to point out that having a far wider variety of beers available in bottles and cans offers a level of convenience that buying beer mostly on tap in pubs does not. I don't see that there's a ton of room for debate on that assertion.

this comment, and your comment a couple of slots below, makes perfect sense. Thank you for clarifying

There are pretty much zero breweries in Columbus that bottle. I wish Columbus Brewing Co. would bottle more of their beers, especially Bodhi. At #82 on the top 250 list, it has to be close to the top of the list as far as non-bottled beers go.

There are a lot of new breweries popping up in northern VA. Very few offer bottles (or cans). The ones that do have a limited selection - either their most popular/mainstream brews or the experimental limited releases.

Saw the thread title and came here just to say Mac and Jacks out of Seattle. I went looking for their beers in Total Wine a week ago or so after having some of their beers on tap around town, only to swiftly find out they don't bottle :slight_frown:

Bonus, however: Total Wine has a growler station with their amber present, which is a very, very tasty beer!
