What are some of the better breweries not distributed in the Portland area? Right now on my list is New Glarus, Toppling Goliath, Bells and Founders.
A few that come to mind: 3Floyds, Cigar City, Jester King, Brooklyn, Sixpoint, Wicked Weed, Half Acre, Pipeworks, Perennial, Champion, Westbrook, Cisco, Societe, The Rare Barrel, Lost Abbey/Port, Devil's Backbone, Hardywood, Williamsburg Alewerks, Foothills, Fremont, Driftwood, La Cumbre, NoDa, J Wakefield, and hundreds (thousands?) more.
That was the impression I had as well. It made me wonder why Kuhnhenn wasn't on his list, which in turn made me wonder if maybe their beer isn't distributed in Iowa.
Yes, primarily Iowa. I don't think we get Kuhnhenn here but I do think they distribute to Wisconsin. I use SeekABrew quite a bit, but that doesn't allow for regional comparisons. For example I bet there are breweries that distribute to WA that are easy to find in Vancouver, and I'm also able to find New Glarus and Lagunitas here even though they don't distribute to Iowa. I'm limited on suitcase space so I wanted to stick with top end selections. Thanks for the list!
I know Oregon is a high "want to live" place for beer geeks, though IMO Cali and WA get better distro. I guess there is no way for us beer drinkers to get everything we want in our own state though I wish.
Depending on what my schedule ends up being, I might be able to share some bottles during my trip. I've also got a potential mule flying in from Anchorage, but from what I can tell, the good AK breweries already distro besides some smaller operations.
