I'm sorry if this topic has been talked about before (I'm guessing it probably has), but I did a brief search and didn't see much....

My wife and I are headed to SF tomorrow morning and our planning to do the coast drive on Highway 1 down to LA (unfortunately not all the way to SD). We've got a flexible schedule and our planning to a couple brewery stops on our tour...but we're trying not to deviate (too much) from Hwy 1. Definitely will stop at SARA and we're going to take a slight detour to Paso Robles to hit up FW. And of course we will be stopping at places in SF and LA as well... Are there any other places, maybe even smaller, hidden gems that are worth checking out? If anyone would be willing to help, it'd be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

    Mike

I'd recommend hitting Barrelworks in lieu of Firestone Paso Robles. The tap list and available bottles are typically better (though there are often different bottles available in Paso vs Buellton). Then again, if you can do both, then do both.

Just looked at the Paso Robles Visitor Center taplist and it's looking pretty good. The Barrelworks list hasn't been updated since early May and I know for a fact that it's not the same now so I can't provide any evidence towards my previous assertions.

I had a really nice time hanging out at Cambria Beer Company in Cambria. The beers didn't necessarily blow me away, but they were all totally solid, and I imagine they've only gotten better/more dialed in in the 8 months or so since I've been there. The owner/brewer (whose name I have forgotten) was cool too.

Cambria Brewing is great. Mentioned already in thread.

Highway 1 Brewing is in Pescadero, located right on Hwy 1.

English Ales in Marina is located a couple blocks off Hwy 1.

Multiple breweries in Santa Cruz (besides SARA)- Santa Cruz Mountain Brewing and Seabright Brewery.

I was there two weekends ago. It's mostly the same with a few changes. I'm sure there have been some changes since then, but you really can't go wrong with any of their offerings. Although, their Bretta Weisse was pretty weak. It was not a very good riff on the Berliner Weisse. I'm not sure what they were going for with that

Awesome... this is great guys. Thank you.

Is the Bruery a pretty good drive to get from Hwy 1? We'll be staying up in Santa Monica while we're in/around LA... looks like it's almost an hour drive through the city... worth the trip to stop in and have a beer or two?

Yeah its a pretty hefty drive, but worth it if you've never been. If you're going to be in Santa Monica I would highly recommend checking out the following in order of deliciousness 1. Beachwood BBQ Long beach 2. Smog City 3. Monkish 4. El Segundo Brewing

If you go to Bruery, make sure not to skip Bottle Logic brewing which is like a mile away.

Beachwood is not to be missed. The location in Long Beach has more of their beers on tap than the Seal Beach location, but both are great.

I stopped at Highway 1 Brewing once. I had a beer called Ol' Snaggletooth (I think). It was delicious!

I've heard good things about a small brewpub in Morro Bay off Hwy 1 called The Libertine Pub. Another place making thier own sours, plus around 48 taps.

I think maybe they were going for something else with it. It's worth revisiting, but it didn't taste like any Berliner Weisse I'd ever had. It had nice brett funkiness, but it was super thin and a little flat. It wasn't particularly tart or crisp. Let me put it this way, it was the first time I ever decided to try a Berliner Weisse with raspberry syrup.

I'll second that I've heard good things about The Libertine. I haven't been there yet but a buddy of mine has and had nothing but great things to say about it.
