Breweries Opening in the Minnesota 2016/2017

Ouch. I hope it wasn't that bad. I wish I would hve had time to grab a flight when I was there a few weeks back to see for myself.

 

Rumor has it today they are pouring the floor. I guess the Scott Johnson design firm of the brewery tweeted it out.

 

Good to hear progress is ticking along ... Be really glad when they pull all that plastic off the windows and we get to see all the work that has happened.

I also heard they redoing the car park this week. Still a bunch of work left on the exterior - new signage ,stack painting and street signage but they are moving along nicely now.

I'm sure we will be reading about them soon on various news/ beer outlets .

Should be another great addition to the Twin Cities Beer scene.

I've watched the building be worked on for some time now, but it's finally in the public discussion with an EDA meeting this morning.

It looks like the #RiceCounty request is $50K, for #Northfield EDA, it's $25K

Heineman: The actual applicant is a lead brewery at the third largest microbrewery in the United States - significant level of experience (My note here: I hear he's from Lagunitas.)

Tanzenwald Brewing Company will be a 10-barrel Craft Microbrewery, and will feature an adjoining taproom/restaurant

Gehring proposed an amendment to the approval of the $25K - contingent upon securing all other financing. (specifically primary financing)

Amendment is unanimously approved.

 

Looks like I'll have another place to visit when I go visit my sister.

 

According to info provided to the city:

"Tanzenwald Brewing Company will not only be a community oriented taproom & restaurant, but it will also be a full distribution brewery servicing Northfield and the Southern Suburbs in year one, reaching into Minneapolis and St Paul in year 2, expanding into the greater Metropolitan area in year 3 and hoping to be distributed state-wide by year 5."

Documents also confirmed that he was formerly at Lagunitas.

 

Anyone know where the new Pryes Brewery will be built? I'd think Minnetonka. Weren't they contract brewing out of Lucid?

 

Metro area is all I know ...my guess Minneapolis ( not sure north or south) . I do like their hoppy IPA!

 

My Twitter feed just informed me that Talking Waters Brewing (Montevideo) just got their state licensing approved. Another summer 2016 opening coming into focus.

 

I went to the Broken Clock tasting/open house/membership drive. If you didn't go today, I guess they will be having more pre-launch events in the future. The guy pouring beer said about one per month until they open.

They had six beer choices:
Kolsch
Serrano Pepper IPA
Chile Porter
Grapefruit Shandy
Lemon Ginger Shandy
Watermelon Shandy

I'd rate the beers from 3.9 to 3.4. None of the beers had obvious technical flaws but none of them really wowed me either. The kolsch was probably my favorite followed by the lemon ginger shandy and the serrano IPA. The watermelon shandy and chile porter were my least favorites. The shandies all used the kolsch as their base beer. I thought that their beer choices were quite interesting. I mean 3 shandies and 2 pepper beers? That's not the typical pale ale-IPA-red ale-blonde ale-wheat beer-stout lineup that new breweries usually come out with. I'm not saying their selection was a good or bad thing, but it made for an interesting tasting.

 

A couple other small updates:

56 Brewing (NE Minneapolis) - I stopped by the tasting room today and chatted with the two people working there. I asked about their plans for finally opening a full taproom. I was told that they have a location picked out in a more convenient part of Northeast. They are currently negotiating the lease for that property. I am not totally sure about this, but it sounded like they would be leaving their current site once its finalized (as opposed to brewing at the current location and serving at the new site). At any rate, I am looking forward to them being in a better location... my iPhone maps literally told me that it couldn't find a route to the address because of a closed street in their area today.

Urban Moose (Sauk Rapids) - On my way up north this afternoon, I saw a billboard while driving west towards St. Cloud on Highway 10. They are publicly advertising a summer 2016 opening, so it looks like they are still on track.

 

I wonder if we will see a brewery on every NE Mpls block? I am guessing 100 of them will be up there.

 

Quality real estate sites have to be in short supply in Northeast these days...

That is an interesting location to choose. I used to live a few miles from there and never went to that area but I would have if Town Hall was there. I wish Town Hall would come to the western suburbs.

 

Oh, Wally was a good guy. RIP. Everything there used to be Mom and Pop from Superette to the Hardware store, I'll stop by and see this place.

 

Has anyone heard updates on Starkeller recently? I think last I heard it's opening was pushed back to "summer"
