Any thoughts on Red Wing Brewery and whether it's worth having my wife stop to bring back a growler for me.

Nah, but it is definitely worth stopping in to eat their transcendent pizza.

After complaining endlessly about the lack of brewpubs in the south metro, too much work travel has prevented me from getting to a few of the 'newer' ones. We went down & hit Angry Inch & Lakeville Brewing tonight.

Lakeville Brewing: overall impression is great food, beer not so much. The Octoberfest was seriously flawed: great upfront with a foul aftertaste. Wet Hop IPA was drinkable but with a similar finish, though not so strong. The IPA was mediocre with an aspirin finish. The Milk Stout was the only thing I'd try again & it was good but not remarkable.

Angry Inch: one sip & my wife said "way better". Naked Hop Party was a very good IPA & Samoan Kisses for a 4.5% beer was remarkable. We only had time for these two, but based on those, I'd be happy to stop in again if we're in the area.

I went to Clockwerks tonight. Considering there was only one group playing pool in the corner when I arrived, it was a very soft opening. The taproom itself is really nice. I think of the North Loop taprooms, it is the one I would be most comfortable hanging out at for a few hours, which is saying a lot. If you ignore the steampunk theme, it has a really nice lounge vibe. Based on the location, the atmosphere will probably change drastically on weekends after 10.

They already have six beers on tap. I ordered a pint of the EPA (called Smiling Baby) and the Alt. I additionally had a taste of the wit, kolsch, and rye pils (I didn't try the ESB). All of the beers were extremely underattenuated. Unlike other brewery openings with similar issues, though, they were not particularly offensive. I definitely recommend checking it out once they have figured out their beers.

Were you there during 'happy hour' ? I work across the street, and will for sure being going there as long as they maintain happy hour pricing ($5 a pint).

Doubt I ever step foot in there for a $7 pint though... not with so many cheaper options close by.

No, I didn't get there until after 7. I think the happy hour is 4-6.

Another place serving $7 pints. Lovely, just what we need. More overpriced, mediocre (at best) beer.

I'll probably check it out at some point, maybe next year before a Twins game, mostly because I feel obligated to check out any new brewery in the Twin Cities. But unless that beer is earth shatteringly good, I probably won't make a return visit.

^^This. All the more reason to hit Steel Toe for $4.50 pints all day long, every day....

I get why the did it, working down here I see every new restaurant come in and they think the average price per pint is $7. The Pint Restaurant's prices were insane, and now after less then a year they've cut their operating hours.

Walk a block down to 508 or Luce and price your pints at or below theirs.

Mike Saboe just posted on Twitter about something called Barrel Theory in Lowertown. Please tell me it is what I think it is.

Not that this is a new brewery, but Urban Growler just posted on their FB page that they closed on a loan for an expansion.
