You sold me. Just traded to get a bottle of permutation 69 from trillium recently. I love a good chocolate pb stout, but most places don’t do them well.

BrewDog goes hand in hand with avarice and prioritizing extreme, rapid growth.

Edit: only I don't think BrewDog will sell. They'll be the ones buying soon enough.

That is true. I guess because I first hand got to enjoy Platform before they lost their good people and the beer quality dropped like a rock as they started to grow the way they did. I mean, selling fruited sours and demanding you refrigerate it because they will explode. F you Platform! That is unacceptable no matter what way you cut it.

If they made great beer, it's one thing. But I just dislike how they operate these days. I can deal with BrewDog, for whatever reason.

So while yes, you are correct but there are other things that influence if I care to visit a place or not.

We’ve rented an air bnb in German Town and the host said it’s walking distance to brewery for that Friday and Saturday. On Sunday we’ll be checking in to Hilton Columbus at Easton. Fiancee has a conference for work there so Monday I’ll be on my own and I fly out that night at 9. Not sure if there is anything around that hotel.

Thing with the Columbus stout is scene is a lot of the best stouts in the area tend to not be downtown. Combustion out in Pickerington brews the best breakfast stout in central Ohio IMO, but I doubt you're going to want to drive out there to see if they have it on tap. CBC Steel Dawn is an outstanding BA stout, but CBC doesn't have a tap room, so you need to find a bar that carries it on draft.

Jackie O's brews some of the best stouts in the country, but they are in Athens, not technically Columbus, so you could certainly go hunt for bottles in the shops or see if any of it is on draft.

Wolf's Ridge has a stout game I'll put up against anyone's, but they could have just one Dire Wolf/variant on, or they could have like 3-4. Coffee Cherry Vanilla Dire Wolf was outstanding this weekend when I had it.

So yeah, I wouldn't necessarily hold yourself to only visiting breweries, you might wanna check the draft lists of some of the beer bars, and you might get a chance to see a more expansive selection of stouts on draft.

Go to Pies and Pints in Easton. Great pizza and tap list. You won't be disappointed.

I want to thank everyone who has contributed to my thread. It’s definitely helped me build a list of breweries to hit.

Last couple of questions I have...

I’m thinking of bring a second suitcase to bring some beer back. Do most breweries offer bottles and cans on site or is there a bottle shop I should check out?

What else is there to do in Columbus besides going to breweries? I was planning on going skiing the Friday I get up there at Snow Trails if weather permits. They told me there was a 50/50 chance of being able to ski that date, but my fiancée has never been so I hope we are able to.

Wolf, Hoof, and Pretenuous all sell bottles to go.

If you do a bottle shop run you can hit Weiland’s, and both savors (market and growl) in close proximity. While there you could do the crest for a nice dinner/beer selection and or hit up studio 45 for an independent cinema experience that serves good beer.

We have two options for skiing, snow trails or mad river. I haven’t been to either in a long time so I’ll let someone else chime in on which is better. They are in different directions but probably about the same distance from downtown?

Mad River is probably a touch closer. Not sure what you are used to skiing, but don't have high hopes for either if you are used to skiing real mountains.

There is a Top Golf in Polaris, if you are into that sort of thing.

I haven’t skied in over 10 years so smaller slopes are probably perfect.

We have a top golf here in Tampa and used to go all the time so I think we got burnt out on it. I also think it’s crazy spending 40 dollars an hour for a bay and that’s not including food or drinks.

    Good recommendations. Thanks!

Not to muddy the waters, but if you do go to Snow Trails, and it craps out, you're not all that far from Wooster, OH and JAFB, who consistently turns out the best IPA's in Ohio, IMO.

I’m never upset about beer suggestions, just trying to figure out what else to do.

    Non beery options:
    Blue jackets hockey game
    Short North gallery hop (art)
North market (international foods, hot chicken takeover, kajohns hot sauce stand - local hot sauce favorite get the firehouse)

Man I’m struggling here, Columbus isn’t great to begin with but in the winter it is especially brutal.

When I told people that I was going to Columbus the most common response I got was “Why?” Haha.

I‘ll probably try to get tickets on Gametime the day of and save some money. That’s sounds like fun. I love the cold, but wouldn’t want to live through the winters every single year.

Take a detour to Marengo and hit Hoof Hearted before JAFB too. Controversial, I know.

I’m going to be in Columbus tomorrow for the day for work. Work ends at 5:00 in Dublin, I have a flight out at 9:00 & will have a rental car. Looking for a spot that has good recommended food & beer, preferably local that I can’t get in Chicago. It doesn’t have to be a brewery could be a craft beer focused bar/restaurant. Flying solo, so don’t need to accommodate any non BA’s.

Looking at this thread I only saw Wolfs Ridge and Pies & Pints mentioned as having food. Any other recs? Will getting to & parking at Wolfs Ridge be a PITA that time of day?
