I think it's worth noting that when I first saw this thread, I assumed Terry was being his usual curmudgeonly self and wanted to know where he could find a brewery that was quiet (no disrespect. Game recognizes game, as they say).
Well, ever since I've cut back on drinking, the urge to try the shiny new thing has diminished a fair bit. There's so much good stuff out there that spending the time to pay attention to every hyped brewery there is is a waste of time. It's hard to go wrong these days. That said- did the news of the news of the new Extra Lush from Fremont got me excited, even if I haven't actively seeked it, or opinions of it, out. Also, with a reduction in consumption, I try to do more to support the breweries that I would hate to lose. Specifically Upright and de Garde. Bigger ones like Deschutes, Breakside, Fremont, Fort George seem less at risk of running into trouble.
I feel like there's different categories of reduced chatter. I think we all are guilty of gushing about new breweries we like. That's the "unreduced chatter" category. Then there's the category of older breweries we like that will be discussed periodically. These are usually the ones that we were gushing about a year ago. Usually they are breweries that we regularly post on WPNWBAYDN, but often don't touch on outside of that. Then there's the longtime breweries that rarely get mentioned at all unless it's because of a major change, such as an establishment of theirs closing or it's being bought by someone. Rogue, Deachutes, Full Sail, Ninkasi seem to be great examples.
Yeah I get it. I tend to go for the older less fashionable places. To Coz I'm old! But I really want to see some new places doing great things survive..looking at you Funky Fauna. Well just checked here in BA.. its still down as in Sisters. Will have to change that
