I was wrong, the Goose Island sale worked well for everybody in my opinion except the seller. They let go for too cheap. Boulevard sold for nearly 3 times that, and I'm not taking away from BLVD. They are one of my favorite breweries, but there was a lot of money left on the table. I was doing some day drinking today while watching the Olympics, & I started to wonder who the next Goose Island is going to be. Would you be shocked to wake up one morning to the news of a New Glarus or O'dell being sold to MillerCoors? Those are unlikely, but It's working for AB, they have their foot in the door of craft sales by "investing" in Goose Island. The hands off approach is working for them, and as smaller brewery sales continue to climb, it's only time before more game changing moves are made like this.

I would be surprised if I heard New Glarus was selling. I wouldn't if I heard Southern Tier was.

I would be totally unsurprised to see Terrapin be courted.

In Mass I wouldn't be surprised if I found out some of the crappier breweries sold out.

You mean more than already? Millercoors already has a minority stake. Like 20 percent or so I believe.
But yeah being completely bought wouldn't suprise me either.

I'd say MillerCoors minority stake in Terrapin (well Tenth and Blake specifically, but that is MC's "craft" division) shows they already have been courted.

Is Avery owned by one of the macros? White rascal could be the next blue moon/shock top but actually good. They carry a lot of notoriety but have had issues keeping up withe demand in the past. dropped markets, etc. i think Avery would be a a prime candidate to be bought out. centrally located in CO etc.

There have been loose rumors several years back that Larry Bell was considering selling his part of the ownership of Bell's but I haven't heard anything about it in a long time. That said it would not surprise me if Bell's is get a bid from one of the big boys.

It won't happen as long as the Carey's are alive.

Hey, I learned something new today. Good shot man.

    And @Loganyoung , same thing.

Next target of mine would be CCB (please everyone don't tell me that one has a stake). Not that they would sell, but it'd look appealing to me from an investment perspective.

Bells has become all family owned, to be taken over by the next generation. If Laura leaves then something is up.

Shipyard. Brand is stale and declining, but familiar. Was once 50% owned by Miller. Could be sold again.

Abita could also be a candidate for a partial sale to provide for an expansion.

Just the first two that came to mind.

Good to know I hope it never happens and I have my doubts that it ever will especially with all the expansion they have done in the past few years. Glad to have them as part of our state. Now that you mention them being family owned I think the old posting that I read may have mentioned that they were trying to get full ownership which some people interpreted as that they were getting ready to sell. It's good to know that they should be around for future family generations

Both good speculations. Both have strong regional ties yet a sizable distro footprint, brew the kind of baby step styles that craft newbies and macro drinkers alike are fairly comfortable with and yet each have a few brews that probably nerds wouldn't scoff at (although neither are highly thought of in the community, TurboDog and Smashed Pumpkin have their fans here and both breweries certainly have enough ok brews that they would often be a solid option in a macro spot).

Essentially both are in the vein of Blue Point and we saw what happened there.

If I was one of the big brands I'd love to have the portfolio of Great Lakes. Diverse list of core beers, solid distribution channels in place already, and their price points work to get onto shelves. I also see that breweries with a location in their name are a preference for the big brands. If I was In-Bev or Miller-Coors I could do good things with this brand.

I don't think anyone saw Blue Point as the next AB/InBev pick up so it is pretty hard to make a good guess as to who will be next. Geographically, a west coast brewery would be the next logical move. It will be one with a solid regional distribution.

Ofcourse it's hard to predict, that's why my examples were 2 breweries that I don't think would ever sell. I chose them as examples because NG is only in their home state & Odell has a great barrel aging program. I was also drinking their beer.
