So I talked to a guy who is on the building side of a brewery being built in Goliad He said its just going to be Goliad Brewing. All the equipment is already sitting in storage, they are just trying to take care of some red tape to get the actual building going.

good find. i thought he said they already had their brewer, but he might be thinking of the person with the money. or they already found them since that post.

I may not fully understand the process of opening a brewery, but I would think that if you are opening once, you usually have a brewer from the beginning? Or at least everyone that I have known to open a brewery, they usually are the brewer to begin with and then they have partners who do the other functions.

Yeah, you would think so, huh? Maybe they are going on the "if you build it, they will come" theory.

Happens more than you think. Say you are in the industry as a sales rep or distributor and want to be part of opening your own business, in this case a brewery. Obviously you have some insight into the goings on but you do not have the skills to brew. So you reach out and hire a head brewer. It's like opening a restaurant but having to hire an executive chef. Happens all the time.

But, to me, you would already have someone in mind. You likely have no recipes, you have just ideas of what you are going to do. From what it sounds like, this place was already being built with no recipes, no brewer, just equipment (correct me if I am wrong on it being built already). I would think the first thing you would do is find a brewer who wants to do the same thing as you and go from there.

But, I am sure it happens all the time, just seems odd.

This is very exciting as goliad is only 30 minutes from me.

The brewery is up and running. I had their Golden Ale tonight at a local bar. Looking forward to the Redfish IPA.

114 miles? That is a longer daytrip in a car at best. No way that is a bike ride.

You'd be surprised how far my father-in-law travels by bicycle in one day on some of his trips. And his trail days are often punctuated with a night at the local brewpub. I'm with you though, 100+ miles in one day would be a death sentence for me.

Had a couple of their beers at Growlers in Houston last night. Was pleasantly surprised by the Redfish IPA. Nice floral nose, not overly bitter. They also had a Golden Ale on tap. Goliad said that their next beer would come out in June and would be a black Hefe.

Having their redfish IPA right now. We got the first keg here in beeville. I got the first pour when they tapped it. It was initially a total grapefruit bitter mess, but its getting better. It's great having something like this so close by.
