Actually not that hard to get a loan with some competence

Exactly right. It may sound harsh, but there are barriers to entry when starting a business of any kind, and usually those barriers are a good thing. It gives the market in question some stability with existing, established players and ensures that new entrants aren't just speculating.

If you can't start a business without circumventing those fundamental barriers, then it's probably good to keep you out of the market.

People who donate to kickstarters aren't true investors. They are donators, albeit compensated donors. Which severs the standard investor/owner relationship because the owner has no external incentive to succeed once they have the "investment". A true investor will pull support and can negatively impact a business if they don't get sufficient return. A Kickstarter "investor" is pretty much SOL on any meaningful recourse.

Agreed. I donated to a crowdfunding initiative that an amateur comic book artist/writer friend of mine started to get his first hard copy issue published. Prior to that it had been a web-only comic. I donated because I wanted him to succeed, and the issue of his comic I received was just gravy. If people want to donate from that POV, then more power to them.

But I have to concur that established breweries running kickstarters irks me a bit. Still, if a consumer wants to donate several hundred dollars to a brewery in exchange for access to limited bottles/events/privileges, then they are welcome to do so. I just wish these breweries wouldn't use the term "investor", because it's disingenuous, and frankly, bullshit.

Haw River Farmhouse Ales is the brewery, I am not by any means saying they are shitty people I was just curious if others had similar experiences. I agree with a lot of what people are saying on this thread. I didn't go into it being an investor or donator per say. I like what was offered on the kickstarter level I donated at and wanted that reward so i purchased it. The fact that its been since Nov 2013 is what bothers me and the fact that I can't get anything out of them in a decent timely manner. Hell one part of my reward were glasses that I finally stopped by and picked up from the brewery in Dec 2014 because they were being so slow in shipping freaking glasses. I have learned my lesson on kickstarters.

Not true for IN, they have happy hours, drink specials, etc. all over the place.

I agree... "backer" is the correct term. I also see some breweries calling themselves co-op's where really it's just a mug club.
