I plan on making the below trip this coming summer. I understand that Alchemist and Lawsons dont offer retail sales or tours, but I want to go through there to pick up "the necessities". Unless you guys know where i can get a case of heady and double sunshine on a more direct route to HF. My other major question is, where should i stay overnight near the HF brewery or in-between HF and Maine (depending on alcohol consumed)? Last question, is there anywhere that I NEED to stop at along this trip, even if it may be a little out of the way? Any help or insight will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!!

You can always camp at one of Vt's great state parks. One of the few things the state Gov does right. I don't see a stop at Kane BC. Might want to fit in Tree House.

On that loop you can hit both of Harpoon's breweries (Windsor VT, right on 91, and Boston) and you can also hit Jack's Abbey ( Framingham MA).

Also saw you are on 495 near Lowell MA. Hit up CBC in Westford. Do Can makes a unique and solid DIPA called Imperial Destroyer

Also please make sure you go to every breweries' website and research their growler fill policy, if they are cash only and hours of operation.

    you can fill anything @nebco.

trillium, treehouse and jack's abby are all must-hit.

be sure to use the alchemist's website to see where and when shops get their Heady Topper.

massachusetts will only fill growlers from that brewery. seems as though VT is the same though Hill Farmstead will fill any 750ml swing top or any 64oz screw cap that are not clear glass.

check FB and websites for current tap lists. treehouse, hill farm, the alchemist, the pro pig all use their own websites. most others use FB like nebco.

Lawson's only sells to three accounts warren store, hunger mountain coop and beverage warehouse. One bottle limits at coop and beverage warehouse. I think 4 bottle limit at warren. 1 delivery a week and All sell out within hours

Warren store would be your best bet for Lawson's, however getting Double Sunshine is a completely different story. Although recently it seems to be coming out somewhat regularly, but in the past he would go months(6+) without releasing any DS. I assume this is because of hops so maybe he has been able to get better contracts this year. If you are coming up on a Friday or Saturday, you may not get any Lawson's (depending on the week).

Heady won't be too hard to get a case off, you might just have to stop at multiple locations. Alchemist's website has all the places that sell it and what day they get.

North Conway, NH would be a good in-between. It is about 2 hr drive from HF (1 1/2 Portland <-> North Conway). The Moat is a great brew pub. Outlets. Plenty of places to stay (although will be pricey). White Mountain National forest also has tons of camping.

In Vermont there is no law like there is in Mass. Each brewery does it's own thing. HF will also not fill metal growlers or the 2L German style growlers. Lost Nation will not fill any growler other than the glass 64oz (no metal), since their system will only fit that size. I've never seen anyone be turned away at Rock Art but that doesn't really mean much. Those are the only ones I know.

Places like Craft Beer Cellar and Hunger Mountain, you can only use their branded growlers.

If you care for more info @jamesewelch put together a great blog post on the subject here

HF recently updated their growler polices too. Please check out their latest blog. No surprises on do/don'ts, they stated no metal and no half/32 growlers.
