I live in southern California and I wear XXL and have really only encountered a few breweries that didn't have that size. In a couple of cases, they carry it but were out of stock.

I don't buy brewery shirts because they often don't fit well, but not because I need XL+ sizes. I'm not overweight and my shoulders usually fit a Medium or Large, but I am a little shorter than average (not by much, 5' 7") and too often the length of Large and sometimes even the Medium shirts fall past my crotch. That's a no-go for me.

That said, it only bothers me a little, because I don't find many appropriate opportunities to wear brewery shirts in my everyday life, and I already have a collection of casual "fun" (e.g. beer, music, hobby, funny) shirts vying for the few times I would wear them.

The shirts I would buy are the sport fabrics that wick away sweat/moisture, but I never see them in anything other than a bike shirt. I wear those fabrics not just for sports, but almost any time I'm out in hot weather and I may sweat. Cotton shirts with wet pit stains are not cool (in more than ways than one).

    +1
"Cheap" is an understatement... the customer is paying the brewery to advertise for them. They should sell at cost, and/or Give out rewards/shwag to anyone wearing their shirts to the brewery or at events. But what do I know....

If brewery logos aren't a big deal for you, I've always had good luck with Cabelas: https://www.cabelas.com/category/Mens-Casual-Shirts/104263380.uts

I'm sure it comes down to stats/sizes that sell.

I'm short, and there it isn't a clothing retailer in the world that sells my pant length (29'') at their stores (online yes). Reason is, most men are larger than me (5'6")

Perhaps its for the same reason beer advertising has traditionally featured skinny, attractive young women in their adds->breweries don't want their advertising on larger people because they worry that will reflect poorly on their brands?

On the subject of brewery merchandise, I'd really like to see less flat brim hats....

I am 6' 3 - 200+ lbs and have no problems finding brewery shirts that fit - in fact, I find most of mine at thrift stores - for $1-2 ea - score!

I think your assumption is a little inaccurate about the “normal” customer base. Both my breweries have always kept a decent stock of merchandise with sizes up to 3XL. Mediums have outsold every other size by over 5:1. Smalls basically don’t sell and larger than XL is slow. Merchandise is expensive and if they’re moving inventory slow, it’s hard to justify keeping those sizes
