Harris Teeter in new Bern, North Carolina has fresher beer than what you can find at the actual brewery in Asheville. I just don’t get it

I don't think your imagining the correct type of people that are drinking at pool bars....

There's a brewery where I found out they tacked on a 3% credit card fee after the fact. I apologized to the server but told them I found that unacceptable and while I will accept it they weren't getting my business again. Maybe I should have asked for a manager to do that instead. I at least apologize to them because it isn't their policy.

Maybe it's not fair, but I'm always disappointed when I go to a brewery and I see little or no offerings that I can't readily find on the shelf elsewhere.

God I'm happy that's illegal in Massachusetts. Here you can offer cash discounts, but you can't charge a credit card fee. It's ridiculous. It's a modern world, you're a modern business, credit cards and credit card fees are a cost of doing business.

While live music can be nice, smaller taprooms don't require amplified sound. I'm going for beer and conversation, not a concert.

I agree with this. And I LOVE live music, but think of the space.

Mandatory gratuity is horrible. In fact, I hate gratuity in the first place. I'd rather just have the prices raised and everyone paid a fair wage, instead of me passing judgement on the service, and the staff passing judgement on me. Seems to work in the rest of the world.

That being said, I wouldn't consider myself a generous tipper, but I'm always going to leave ~20%, +/- depending on service. I do miss the days when 1 drink=$1 for tip.

I personally think the penny, and probably the nickel, should just be removed from circulation. Round cash transactions to the nearest 10 cents up or down, it will even out over time. But that is a whole conversation on its own.

This wasn’t really a peeve, but just a funny observation. Visited Ruse brewing in Portland.
On their draft list they put the bathroom code. then when you go to the bathroom there’s a big sign on the door with the code.
I’m like “why do they even have a code?”

What even is a bathroom code?

I mean, I know the #1 and #2 code, otherwise?

They would never even out because businesses would look at their pricing and set at the point where everything rounded up. You would just have to start using whole dollars, which gets tricky because local/state sales taxes are set to the decimal point (my county is 8.2%. how do you round decimals of a penny. Like gasoline being sold by the tenth of a cent. You ever get that tenth cent back when buyin a gallon for the lawnmower? no, because the business rounds that up and keeps it).

Gotta keep people in distress from having access so that they can take care of basic bodily functions. My local Dairy Queen has a door code to get into their bathroom.

lol…yes one of my local spots has a stage for bands. They bought a place that previously had live bands playing. I thought oh cool. Happen to stroll in one day when the6 had a blue rock band playing. Man it was way too loud. Could not hear 5 feet in front of me. Bad idea. Thank god they haven’t or don’t have many bands playing there. I’ve been back several times with no bands playing.
