I will be in New Haven next week for a business trip and was looking for some good recommendations. I'll probably have a colleague with me so good food is also a must (i.e. no bars with no food). I'll be staying close to downtown a block or two from Yale so let me know what's what in CT.

    Thanks!

Prime 16 has an excellent selection of rotating taps! Nice happy hour specials and 3.00 beers every Monday from 7pm top close!

Cask Republic is good too. Same owner as Gingerman, so lots of taps, and some good food. Can be a bit pricey though IMO.

    Its 1/2 a block from Prime 16.

I've only been there during the day and heard that it becomes a nightclub later on, but I was surprised by how much I liked Bru Rm given some of the reviews I had read ahead of my visit a few months back. I believe it's the city's only brewpub and while the taplist isn't long and the beers aren't mind-blowing, I thought the offerings were solid and the space was very nice. We didn't eat, but the pizzas we saw looked very good. I'm sure others have a better sense of what's good, but I figured I'd mention it.

    1) Prime 16...4-7 PM Mon-Fri 1/2 off Beers at Happy Hour. My favorite beer bar in the state. Also, their burgers are insanely good. Get the Parmesan fries while you are there too.
    2) Delaney's Taproom. Further up from downtown on Whalley Ave, but worth the trip. Also has good food. Just be sure to go into the bar and not the restaurant area, that always confuses people.
    3) Cask Republic. More expensive than the others, but has really nice decor and is a good bet if you are out with business associates. Also has a very good bottle list.

Also, check out New England Brewing if you can while you are in town. They are just a little bit further from Delaney's and is a fantastic little brewery to visit. Nice Avatar btw, I'd love to get to Chicago and check those guys out sometime.

This is completely right. Also, if you eat at Prime 16, the pretzel roll is the best fifty cent upgrade money can buy.

If you do go to Bru Room, don't order the Bar pizza--go to Pepe's or Modern for pizza.

Thanks for the advice all! I think Prime 16 will be a dinner stop one of the nights, and the Cask Republic might fit into one of the other ones.

Any thoughts on a beer store close to Whalley & Elm? I'd like to grab a couple things before I head out tomorrow.

If you want to head up the road a few miles to Hamden, Mikro is must stop. Excellent food and a great beer selection.

Nothing really worth a stop right there. Best bet is Amity liquors further down Whalley past Delaneys, next to the 5 Guys burgers. If you have to stay downtown, check out the Wine Thief next to Cask Republic. Nowhere near the select as Amity but they always have some solid choices.

Also Rudy's right around the corner has a short but quality draft list and great food as well.

Cask Republic ended up being the final stop, and I want to say thanks to you CT BAs for the advice. Both Prime 16 and CR ended up being fantastic choices. I wish I could've stayed longer/got up later to enjoy more of the selections.

Didn't end up stopping at a beer store, but thanks naloxone for that recommendation as well.
