Sam Adams accepts donations (they then donate forward) and it is virtually unlimited sampling.

They included one of their 100 Barrel Series into the sampler, so that increased the value. They had three samplers- the Harpoon sampler, the UFO sampler, and "specialty" sampler. I got the Harpoon sampler which had the IPA, dark, summer ale, and citra victorious. The UFO sampler had the white, hefeweizen, raspberry hefeweizen, and one other one. Not sure what the "specialty" sampler had since no one in my group got it.

Yeah I have yet to do the Sam Adams tour. I've heard it's pretty good. It's on my to-do list when I move out to Boston full time for grad school in August.

That sounds like a reasonable price. I'd expect to pay $9 or $10 for a sampler of that size.

Yup. They even have suggestions for mixing them. A town of people in town go there for "free beer Fridays." Abita Springs is so tiny it doesn't cost them too much and it's only for a couple hours. Always worth the detour if you're coming or going to New Orleans by car. Just make sure you're there for the right window of time. If you miss it, though, there's a good Abita brew pub not far away (unfortunately not free).

Awesome time at Mayflower. Great price, I have yet to go on the tour because I get really pumped for the tasting and want to do it right away. You can purchase a growler of your favorite mayflower brew for I think about 16 bucks, and when you return to get more you receive a discounted price as long as you bring in that growler. Awesome bottle for your collection. Nice atmosphere with a knowledgeable staff which is always nice, and you can tell the people who are coming in are true brew drinkers.

    Cheers to Mayflower.

I want to visit as many in New England breweries as possible.

If you know any good ones in PA let me know !

Unlimited wow.. I went to Miller in Milwaukee. Great tour, free, and free beer.

Tasters (across the board) I've found usually are well priced. It's only when bars like Churchill's around here know what they have and mark up their stuff during festivals because of rarity. This sucks because most of the people going to these are patrons.

I have heard that tasters at Sierra Nevada are like $0.50 each. Can anyone confirm that?

Did the brewery tour at Alaskan in Juneau, AK 2 years ago and it was free samplers (3oz maybe?) of what they had on tap. I reckon they had 10 taps so 30oz of free beer. Same law reasons as Big Sky in Missoula, MT. Have to give anyone who asks 2 pints or something. Weird law, won't say no.

Berkshire Brewing Company: Two free 8 ounce pours
Lefty's: Free unlimited 2 ounce pours
Abandoned Building Brewery: free unlimited 2 ounce pours
Magic Hat Brewery: free unlimited samples (don't recall size, maybe 4 ounces)
Sam Adams: several free 4-6 ounce samples
Element Brewery: free samples of whats on tap

Every brewery i've been to has been absolutely free. Only places that requires you to order a flight were the small brew pubs that didn't really have a tour so the only option is to sit down at the bar and order a flight

I say the same thing about wine tasting, but here goes: Charge me for tasting. Because some people come in just to taste and, for the most part, it's people like all of us. But sometimes it's bachelor parties and people who just want to get a good buzz on. They shouldn't do that for free. However, if I'm buying a case or a few growlers, take the tasting cost off my bill.

If I got five tasters at $1 each, great. My $14 growler is 9 now. Of course, this depends on sample size, but let's say 2 oz. pour.

That is a nice flight of beer...every place I have been always charges for a flight...$5 to $10 bucks depending on the pour sizes...7oz is a pretty big pour. I've been places that will let you sample several for free but we are talking an ounce or two in a small plastic thimble.

I don't really like to buy samples at a brewery if it's a bar counter/growler-fill type environment. Usually if I'm at a brewery I have enough faith that whatever I bring home is going to be worth the price without sampling. Jack's Abby came up earlier. I would buy literally anything from them without sampling. But then, they also sell singles and growlers at what I consider to be fair (or better) prices. I also like their option to buy samples or full pours, even though I would rarely partake myself.

However, the five 7 ounce pours at Mayflower sounds more like it must have been at a table or bar type setup, is that accurate? Can't see drinking that much beer standing at a counter. I can easily see spending a few bucks in that type of situation.

I was at Night Shift and Mystic last weekend. Night Shift charges for each of their pours and only certain beers can be ordered on a sampler. The others need a full glass purchased. Mystic is still working on getting their liscense to sell full pours (it should be soon) so until then they went through a free sampling of the beers they had available. Last weekend it was like 7 different ones and I thought it was awesome.

Other places I have been lately are Beer'd (where they sample all beers available for free... usually five or so and they are excellent!) and Proclamation. Proclamation charges $5 for (3) 4oz pours or $10 for the (3) 4oz pours with a glass to take home. That way, with the 76oz Rhode Island serving law they can give a customer a sampler and still allow them to buy a growler (boy this state sucks).

Stone does a tour and 4 4oz pours of their four year round beers and you keep the taster glass for 3 dollars. The Lost Abbey does 4 oz pours of anything on tap for 1 dollar each. Russian River will do a flight of what they have on tap. When I was there they had 15 different beers. I got 15 4oz pours for 15.99. All pretty reasonable in my book.

Allagash gives 4 free tasters. Can't remember exactly, but I believe they were 4oz pours.

That is correct, its like a taster/tour bar environment. I find it a fun experience going in trying all the beers and touring the brewery. Only Problem is they close at like 2 so you have to get there around noonish. End up passing out early that day haha
