    Check this out:
    http://www.theguardian.com/sustaina...-craft-brewer-beer-recycled-water-environment

A California craft brewer is going to make beer out of waste water using NASA technology. It sounds outrageous but water treatment technology is pretty good. The US Geological Survey estimates that some 15 million people living in the Mississippi River watershed rely on the river for water and also have their wastes discharged into the river. So we are already drinking waste water. Hats off to Half Moon Bay Brewing Company!

Nasa technology sounds unnecessary and expensive, not to mention dirty. Pass

Probably an unavoidable trend in some parts of the country, the filtration technology is great, but it will strike some as straight out of the "The Water Knife" (book).

It's called water treatment, the technology has been around for years and it's not a news story.
This is not about shit water entering one end of the brewery and leaving as beer on the other end.

I am kind of annoyed educated people find it amusing that grey water can be filtered, treated and put back into use. It happens all over. Not a big deal. Next they are going to tell me that reservoirs are amazing because fish live there.
    Cheers.

Nobody would ever know if this article wasn't published. Perfectly reasonable use of recycled water.

Anyone who of the 15 million people live in one of the 50 or so cities that draws it drinking water from the river is already drinking water that that contains the discharge of several waste water treatment plants. Like you say, its called water treatment. When breweries are using 5 to 7 gallons of water for every gallon of beer, in times of water shortage and drought they need to do all they can to get the ratio down around 3. Reusing grew water not only makes sense, it should be mandatoy.

I am in total support of this. I believe in technology over fear. Technology is real, and fear is imaginary. Gimme a pint, and I'll happily drink it. Heck...no one needs to give it to me, I'll gladly pay for it!

They made beer out of much worse water during the middle ages. What the water treatment doesn't capture, vigorous boiling for an hour will pretty much taker care of everything else.

The only folks not using recycled water are those who live near the headwaters and upstream from any other neighbors.

I'm hearing a lot of passing. Personally, bring on the beer. Every drop of water has been urinated by something at some point.

    :-)

Well, one could point out as does the EPA

    https://www3.epa.gov/region9/water/recycling/

that the Earth has been recycling water for years.

But more seriously, well water can be and sometimes is inadequately recycled, especially in areas where the water table is being lowered significantly by drilling to yield drinking water, and water for irrigation or industrial uses.
