Cracked out a batch of pale mild (or maybe session bitter? I'm not sure) on Saturday. Mild ale malt with a mix of crystal, 1.039 OG, about 20 IBUs of Wye Challenger at the start of boil, fermenting it with West Yorkshire. Nothing spectacular, but we've moved to a new city and it's nice to have everything running smoothly in a new house.

I'll probably still be around. It's just gotten to the point that brewing has become more of a chore than something I enjoy (gone from doing a batch every other week to once every 3-4 months over the past few years, and even then I'm forcing myself), and I'm looking to clear out garage and basement space, so it makes sense. Who knows, might miss it and have start over with all new stuff sometime down the road.

I also really enjoyed your posts on brewing and what other ingredients might or do add to the beer.
    All the best

    What the ****?

Glad to hear you'll be sticking around. I'm currently doing a Dirty Chai Brown Ale, and if it sucks, you can help troubleshoot.

Change up, after going over the home brew recipes I decided to brew@JohnSnowNW house pale again. A most excellent pale ale recipe I brewed a lot years ago and the wife’s fav.

    What makes it "dirty"?

One thing to look out for is that cardamom, clove, and nutmeg are really potent, so start small with them and work up on future batches. I'd look up Gordon's recipe for a chai brown ale in Brewing Better Beer, but I gave it away.

Yesterday was supposed to be Pale Ale day, but because the LME had darkened it looks like more like an Amber

Munton’s Extra Light (not) British LME, Munton’s Light DME, Malted wheat, C-20
2 oz Lubelski hops at 60 and 15
8 oz Lubelski and 2 oz Amarillo hopstand, average ~165° for 20 min
    S-04

Amarillo was an audible. Was going to use 2 oz. Eukanot cryo and much less Lubelski in the hopstand, but the Eukanot didn’t look or smell right. In hindsight I wish I'd just gone with zero Amarillo and more Lubelski. Not that I don't like Amarillo (I do), but it might hide some subtleties of the Lubelski.

    Broke my first hydrometer.

I think I went through 4 over 15 years, and still feeling like I did better than most.

Brewed a mosaic IPA the other day. I’m fermenting, DH, and serve in the same keg. Natural carbing and leaving hops in for the duration with floating dip tube. Sort of an experiment to see if I get any off flavors.

Labor intensive morning. Bottled 1 gallon of saison and split the other two gallons up onto fruit. One batch went on 2lbs of sweet and tart Wyman cherries, the other on guava, mango and lime. Really digging how it’s tasting so far. I used Strisselspalt and 3 yr old home grown cascade in the boil. There’s a lot of citrusy funk already. Threw a couple into green glass 750’s.

Brewed a Cold IPA with Mexican lager yeast from White Labs. Used hop profile in recipe but added Citra to the whirlpool, 2oz and dry-hopped only Centinnal. [IMG] [IMG] Finished at 1.008
