Brewed up a smoked wheat double ipa with Citra & Galaxy yesterday. I've brewed this a few times with different hop combinations but Citra/Galaxy has been my favorite.

First brew day with my new Grainfather. Making an American Wheat Ale. Not going so will in the mash - my traditional crush is too fine for this system and the pump is continuously getting clogged. Live and learn!

    Cheers!

    Bummer.
Rice hulls are cheap and I don't think they go bad if stored properly.

Agree - I put a stack in. Always have since my first stack mash way back in the day. I suspect that even with the rice hulls my crash was simply too small for the grain pipe's mesh.

I will take the pump apart and clean it when I'm done, but it's safe to say it's been a frustrating first use. But I kind of expected that too, so not throwing the unit in the bin just yet!

    Cheers!

So it turns out I'm an idiot - I had attached the trub screen for the pump to the temperature well rather than the pump intake. That added to a fine crush is a recipe for a stuck pump.

Sometimes it's the simplest things... I bet I'll never make that mistake again!

    Cheers

Acquired the last of my materials. Just running a few tests on my refurbished mash tun for next week and waiting on lab results for my water source.

Staring to write up a plan based on my old notes with this recipe. This will be my first go at all grain since late 2016.

I haven't used brett in a homebrew in like 8 years, so just ordered some brett brux, and will be fermenting a hoppy kettle sour with it. Sour worting with homemade sauerkraut brine, which should be interesting! Simple 2-row grain bill, with Citra/Vic Secret in whirlpool/dry hop.

Nice! Our last batch of Kraut formed blue and greenish mold on top. We threw it out, didn’t want to chance it. If it had just been white we’d have ate it. We messed up about a week into it fermenting and forgot to check the liquid/brine level and it dropped below our little marble that holds the top leaf down. Won’t do that again.

Ah, yea I use a fermentation ball jar lid and spring, keeps it beneath the brine! I've had a few ferments get mold on the surface in summer months but found that if you can get the top moldy layer out everything else below it is still fine.

Just brewed a Marzen and something I haven't done a lot of, a English Oat Brown ale that I may oak in secondary depending on taste after primary.

Brewed a Smoked light lager today. Everything went smoothly until the battery on my tilt died so will likely let it go without gravity readings. Brewed similar lager recipes without the smoke lots of times so should be alright but still frustrating to have happen

Do you have the OG reading? If you have a hydrometer just take a couple readings in a few weeks and you’ll know.

Only took a pre-boil reading but that'll get me pretty close to the OG anyway. Much prefer the ease of the tilt but I'll just have to take some readings the old fashioned way on this one

Brewed up a Black ipa with centennial, chinook, citra hops this morning. Haven’t done this hop combination before but trying to get some hops out of the freezer as my stockpile has grown too large again!

Kegged up my porter today. It had a pretty vigorous fermentation but I didn’t taste any off-flavors when I checked a sample. Looking forward to trying this one in a week or so.

Tapped a Grisette brewed with the dry Belle Saison yeast(safer bet than 3724 with shipping) and really happy with this yeast. I had always used Wyeast 3724 prior to our LHBS croaking.
