Japanese brewer Isekado has announced an unprecedented challenge: brewing beer in space. In collaboration with Takazago Electric, a Nagoya-based company specializing in advanced aerospace fluid technology, the project seeks to conduct Japan’s first-ever beer fermentation experiment aboard the International Space Station (ISS). The initiative, titled the Space Brewing Project, will utilize Japan’s experimental module “Kibo” (which aptly translates to “hope”), marking a new chapter in both brewing and space science. The yeast won't settle so they will need to bring a centrifuge if they want clarified beer up there. In the early 70s, a homebrewer biochem major I knew used his lab centrifuge to clarify his homebrew (probably not an approved use of the facility). It was too efficient. There was no yeast remaining for the bottle ferment. He was left with flat, slightly sweet beer.
