Hey y'all, I successfully brewed my first batch of beer a few weeks ago, an American Amber, which turned out awesome. A good malty flavor with a hoppy aroma and a mild aftertaste. Anyways, the beer was great for my standards and I want to brew another batch soon! Any thoughts on a style that would be good to drink, yet somewhat simple to brew? I would love to try a dunkel or possibly something with a little more alcohol content but good flavor. If you could just shoot me some ideas and help a brother out! Thanks, Mark P.
Dunkel is a lager style. That is often a problem for newbs because of equipment and yeast handling needs. Your description of what you would like to drink isn't very ...descriptive. What commercial beers come to mind when you imagine yourself drinking your next homebrew? I bet someone could steer you toward it...
Pale ales and IPAs with US-05 are always good noob beers. A wheat beer or hef might be a choice too. Just simply wheat extract plus Bavarian wheat yeast makes a damn tasty beer (can you do starters?). Or even a simple saison using T-58.
My best suggestion would be to brew another batch one week after you brew your next. Nothing worse than to taste that first bottle (undercarbed, most likely), love it, and then realize you've got 4 weeks or more until you've got something else.
American or English brown ales also are a good style to try. My first beer brewed was an american brown ale.
Welcome to the 'club'. Depending on what you like to drink, go with that style. But because it's wintertime and malty beers are more popular, I recommend a brown ale (as recommended above) or a porter or basic stout. But don't try any imperials stouts or anything 'big' until you get a feel for this homebrewing hobby.
