Brewing first saison

    I am planning on brewing my first ever batch of a saison. The weather is HOT here in Texas and my wife happens to like the saison's we both have had. I am completely new to this style of beer so i have very little knowledge and understanding of this. There is a LHBS that told me if you brew a sour beer, (one with the brett bacteria), you'll never be able to brew anything else on that equipment since you won't be able to get all of the bacteria from the yeast off of it. If this is completely outlandish, don't blame me, im just reporting what i have been told. I would like to brew this saision as its had many hits.

    Your glass fermenters should be ok, but it's always good assurance to have one dedicated specifically to brett/sour beers. Definitely any plastic buckets, tubing, racking canes that come in contact with brett should be kept away from the 'clean beer' equipment.

    If you don't feel like buying brett-dedicated equipment just yet, there's plenty of other good saison recipes out there that are clean, and you'll enjoy them just as well I am sure.

    Bleach kills everything. I don't dedicate anything but one fermenter to wild yeast and bacteria.

    Brett is yeast, StarSan kills yeast

    No need for different equipment if you are just using yeast. Did I mention that Brett is yeast :slight_smile:
