Does anyone have any brewing spreadsheets for inventory ? I don't like how beer smith does it. I know a lot of people use excel, I was wondering if anyone had any examples. I like to plan out my brew schedules and figure out how much of each ingredient I need (I buy in bulk) and doing it by pen and paper is getting old fast.
https://www.beeradvocate.com/community/threads/brewcipher.141602/ One from here. I use it and it seems OK, never used Beer smith so am not sure how it compares.
yes but i need something instead of pen and paper for figuring out what I need to order when i place them.
I think you will find (if you are like me anyway) that your mind will change 47 times before you actually brew your next batch
I dont do that since i buy in bulk. so i like to plan everything out. so far i have found nothing but pen and paper to use and I always seem to forget something.
Thanks for the BrewCipher shout-outs. But for OP's info... BrewCipher does not have an inventory function, because it's a spreadsheet and not a database. (The idea is to save each recipe/batch as a uniquely named copy of the workbook.)
I haven't found an acceptable inventory solution either. I think BeerSmith would be fine, if I'd commit to using it. Like, SFACRKnight, I change my mind 47 times. Usually, I'll limit some of those options based on what I see in inventory.
I've have quick question related to brewcipher. I am an extract brewer so I was wondering on how I should use this since it's set up for all grain. I get how most of it works except for the all grain portion. Is there anything I have to do different being an extract brewer? Will my numbers be off since I am extract? The spread sheet is amazing and it looks like lots of work was put into it!
The math models in BrewCipher work for Extracts as well as Grains. You just choose/enter your extracts (and steeping grains) in the "Grains, Fermentables, Other" area. There are some settings that are for All Grain that won't matter what's in them (i.e. they have no effect for any extract portions of a recipe) such as Grain Absorption Loss, Mash Efficiency/Temp/Time, and Strike Water to Grain Ratio.
So basically all I will want to use from the recipe page is.... batch size, grains fermentables other, diff hop additions, yeast section, and ferment temp?
I have tried a few other apps/software and the post boil OG is differnt on all of them lol so I was trying to find something reliable and your spread sheet seems amazing!!
And Boil Time, which in conjunction with your boil-off rate (from the Brewhouse Parameters tab) will determine how much water you need.
