Bueller? Might be interesting. Fermentable sugars in the ketchup? Just popped into my head....

Well considering there is more sugar by volume in some ketchups than in pure sugar, I imagine it would mostly just turn into alcohol. I suppose there would be a mild tomato taste as well.

Not sure I want to add vinegar, onion, and two types of corn syrup to a beer. I guess you could buy one that uses cane sugar...but you'd still have some odd spices and quite a bit of vinegar added to the brew.

There are beers that are made with some sort of tomato base like this one http://www.beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/9629/38519/
although I don't know if ketchup is one of the ingredients. I personally think this beer is pretty good, although the rating is nothing to make the brewery proud.

I had always wanted to make some prison wine aka 'pruno' before: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pruno

I think if it were good local ketchup, the sugars and spices in it could lend a nice depth of flavor to some beer styles. Just no Heinz 57 or anything. I wouldn't overdo it by any means

Of course vomiting FROM your eyes is a little different than vomiting IN your eyes ...sort of beer related : ) Cheers

"three tomatoes are walking down the street- a poppa tomato, a momma tomato, and a little baby tomato. baby tomato starts lagging behind. poppa tomato gets angry, goes over to the baby tomato, and smooshes him... and says.......I won't make a beer with you!"

Ketchup beer sounds fantastic! Put some Worcestershire sauce in it too.

Make sure you buy the ketchup made with real sugar, not that HFC crap.

I am definitely interesting in hearing how it turns out if anyone does this. I might do it myself ... just a dash of good ketchup thrown into a cream ale or something. Just enough to give it a weird bite, and then challenge drinkers to guess what the secret ingredient is.

Makes me think of doing a bacon cheeseburger beer with ketchup, bacon extract, ramp, mustard seed, and iron heavy water to simulate rare beef.

    Could be tasty...probably not. lol

You may have to adjust the ph of the ketchup. Maybe ketchup wine is more appropriate? It will be a fairly thick mash if you try to make beer out of it. However, a sour ketchup beer might not be so vomity...

Never used ketchup, that seems a bit odd.

You can however use a small amount of tomato paste as a yeast nutrient substitute.

Condiment beers will be huge some day. The OP is a brewing pioneer blazing the trail for a slew of imitators. Ketchup IPAs will be a thing by 2020.

My advice would be to make your own homemade ketchup. That way you can control what goes in it – tomatoes (obviously), but the spices and sugars can be selected based on your taste preference. I would leave the onions/garlic powder out, IMO, but black pepper and cayenne pepper could be good in it.
