Anyone have experience brewing with a very high percentage of Rye malt, or Rye flakes, over 50% Rye. Want to try 100% Rye brew, but know run offs in LT will be an issues, have used rice hulls but don't seem to help much. Not wanting a 24hr run off.

I haven't used over 50% rye, but I'm pretty sure the answer is to use more rice hulls.

I'm about to brew a 5 gallon batch with 4-5 lbs of rye and I'm going to use perhaps 2 lbs rice hulls. Mind you I've got a tall, skinny, 5 gallon igloo water cooler type mash tun. This design really needs the hulls. But yeah, rice hulls are needed for high amounts of rye.

I did one batch of rye-heavy beer, with about 20% rye malt and 10% flaked. Didn't use rice hulls, and my run off was in the neighborhood of an hour (way longer than normal). If I ever do so much rye again, you can bet I'll invest in a few rice hulls.
