Both are great. Though I hit up Bells more often when I'm in Michigan. Bells usually has more beers available that are not distributed. Plus the beer garden is great for the kids.

I would say bells, they ususlly always have a nice taplist where founders taplist is hit or miss from day to day. The food is better at bells too, in my opinion.

Imo, founders is by far the better place to go. But I would hit up bells. Depending on the way your going you could hit dark horse as well. Biggest reason is its closer and easier to get to A2 from Bells. Also cheaper on the hotel end

I wouldn't call Latitude 42 terrible advice. My wife and I love the food and beer there.

Founders left a bad taste in my mouth because the tap list was really boring. Also, I visited around the backwoods bastard release, and they were out of bottles! It was still all over the place in Chicago at the time. Sort of funny to me. However, I didn't eat there, and it seemed like a nice place. Bell's had an absurd amount of one offs to try and decent food.

I prefer Bell's over Founders for the atmosphere. Having only been to Bell's a few times, and having spent a LOT of time in Founders, I just get a weird vibe at Founders. Maybe I'm alone in this sentiment, but it seems every time I go to Founders they act like they're doing me the favor, whereas Bell's has been a very enjoyable experience.

I was a bartender for 7 years, so I have a pretty good idea on how this gig works. That being said, I don't enjoy waiting for crap service. I actually prefer waiting in line at a bar for a few minutes to get a beer over being served by hipsters with attitude issues. Again, I may be alone in how I feel on this. As far as the offerings go, I've always found more creative offerings at Bell's, with the exception of Founders' festivals (see: Black Party, which I will continue to attend because where else can you get KBS/CBS/Panther Cub in one setting???). I haven't been to Bell's since the renovation was complete, and I know they have an updated menu now (which I haven't tried). As far as Founders food though; they make some damn good sandwiches. I've tried many, and have been impressed by all.

Also, enjoy the game. I can honestly say that aside from Notre Dame, it's going to be the most crowded (see: sitting on your neighbor's lap) venue you'll ever watch a game in. That may have changed though with UofM's recent track record of royal suckage.

Lol @ "hipsters with attitude issues". I can picture at least three people that you could be talking about.

I just went to Founders yesterday for the first time, and had visited Bell's for the first time a couple months ago (shortly before the expansion). We enjoyed Founders much more - although I would go back to either. We did have our 2 daughters with us both times, so that is probably a different experience than most...and they behaved better at Founders than they have for just about any meal ever - and it was at 7 pm on a Saturday night when things were getting pretty busy.

Founders will most likely have Backwoods Bastard on tap at that time! That's reason enough in itself to head over there.

I agree, that's not a bad list, but it's not always this good - last time I went I think there were literally three beers on the entire list that wouldn't have been on the shelf at a bottle shop down the street, at I think two of those were year-round tap offerings (solid gold, nitro oatmeal.)

Interesting...Everytime ive looked this year and gone, they have a fantastic tap list...But I do understand...Thing is, I believe this happens at every brewery..
