I'll be headed down to Ocean City, MD on friday. I should be in NJ around lunch time and was hoping for a good spot to eat and grab a beer that won't add too much time to the trip. Any suggestions?

What part of NJ in particular?

Edit: I highly highly recommend Harvest Moon. Great food and beer brewed on premise.

Right off the Turnpike in New Brunswick NJ.

Edit 2: Also extremely reasonably priced.

I'm not positive on how close they are to the turnpike, especially being that the turnpike in jersey only has exits every like 15 or so miles once you get through the Newark area. But you should look into Harvest Moon in New Brunswick and Triumph in Princeton or New Hope PA - right over the river from NJ. Harvest Moon is one of my favorites though.

Harvest Moon is a lot closer than Triumph, but Triumph makes tastier beers...

Iron hill in Maple Shade, maybe 5-10 minutes off of exit 4.

I only went once, but from what I remember, JJ Bitting was terrible. If you're going to stop at only 1 place, don't make it Bitting.

Terrible Beer and/or Service? I've only been there twice over the years and never had a concern, but I'd rather go to other places.

There's also Old Bay and George St. Ale House which are 1 block away from Harvest Moon if you decide you want to check out other places afterwards (if time permits).

It's seriously been probably about 2 years since I've been as I don't live in the area anymore. It was when I was first getting into beers but I don't remember liking the beer very much. And I remember the food being pretty below avg.

Chris formerly of Chelsea(NYC) and Port 44(Newark) is the brewer at JJB's now. The beers are good and the food has never been their strong point.

One word of caution - New Brunswick, though relatively close to NJ Tpk Exit 9, can be a bitch to get in and out of traffic-wise on a working/school day, as well as to find on-street parking (you'll probably wind up in a deck - either way, you're gonna pay). So, Harvest Moon is not exactly a Turnpike "EZ-off, EZ-on" quick lunch stop most of the time while driving through the area.

(I've also had one of the worst meals EVER at Harvest Moon - an order of Fish and Chips where the texture of the batter-dipped fish reminded me of my Little League era Wally Moon signature model baseball glove. Which is a bit unfair --- to the glove, which probably tasted better. Their beers never impressed me, either.).

The burger at Harvest Moon is very good. Like jesskidden said, parking can be a pain. This parking deck I use is around the corner from Harvest Moon. Address: Lower Church St. Deck, 90 Church St. New Brunswick 08901.

I'm still insisting you give Iron Hill a try.... Great beer great food easy on and off the turnpike and easy parking!!!!!

The beers at Harvest Moon suck IMO. And its not exactly next to the Turnpike. When you say Turnpike you really need to be more exit specific. It runs the entire length of the state so there are many different areas covered.
