Never said I'd had it recently.

Tree House used to do a phenomenal porter, Hustle, that had no over-the-top sweetness. Don’t know why they haven’t brought it back. Maybe because it wasn’t a Nate creation.

They have Catharsis and the Abstraction series.
I did not like Catharsis. I don't drink a lot of porters so I don't know if I don't like them or just that one.
I like bold stouts. Is there a big difference in taste between the styles?

Buy a six pack of Mayflower Porter. Not saying it's the best porter in the world, but it's damn good. Go from there based on your tastes.

Saurons , is big robust porter, thick on the palate.
A favorite in our house, that said friends feel it is deep in stout territory.
I feel it’s very Danish in texture, creamy and full, a very good porter.
    Cheers

They just tapped Sauron's Night Light at Armsby Abbey. They also still have Hearthbound from Fox Farm.

    Did someone say Porter Off?!?!

I just had it at Armsby.
Wow. Very robust. I didn't get creamy or thick like others have said but just very complex. A lot going on but it is very well balanced. Great beer.

More than any other brewery in the state, I am going to throw my dollars toward helping B&F weather the storm. Picked up a mixed case this afternoon for me and some co-workers, plan to try and do so semi-regularly. They're doing internet only orders, modified hours with curbside pickup. Easy peasy, and now I'm home enjoying a delicious Kitten With a Whip.

    I wish I was closer.
The only "struggling brewery that needs my support" that is within a reasonable distance and makes beer worth buying in these trying times is Tree House and something tells me they will be fine.
Has Brick and Feather been extending their can distribution? I know other breweries small and large have. Rustic in Indian Orchard has pushed their growlers (no canning line) into some local packies for the first time ever.
I feel like the package store is my best bet to try to support the little guy but I would rather go direct to the brewery. That and I don't know how I feel about the clientel and sanitation practices of some of these stores.

I don't think they're considering distribution yet, but per some Instagram or Facebook comment thread, they are at least thinking about thinking about it if it's necessary. The person at the door today said things were going quite well for them so far with curbside, so we'll see how long that lasts. I would totally be into them doing some distro, it's not a long drive for me, maybe 35 minutes, but if I could support some of my local packies & Brick & Feather at the same time, might as well

In Absentia and Ignore alien order cans...go get ‘em and support the smaller breweries. If you miss that Monson era TH smell when you crack open a NEIPA, B&F can supply you with that fix. Besides, In Absentia tops Julius IMO.

I have had S&S 8, Pavement and No Use for Smugglers today. No Use was the best of the 3 for me. If you have never had Brick & Feather, give them a try!

Probably a dumb question but were you at the brewery? Do they have any distribution whatsoever?

No distribution, but they are selling by the single can, no markup, via an online ordering system, super easy and convenient. Head there on a Thursday and then go grab some alchemist focal & heady 25 minutes away at the Brattleboro co-op, also carry Frost, Lawsons, Lost Nation few others.

Just swung by today on the way home from a weekend in western MA.

drinking an In Absentia right now. Pretty good. A lot less juicy than a top notch NEIPA, a little maltier.
Got three other beers of their in the fridge, but I wouldn’t imagine I’d drive back out for this one.

It’s not bad. it’s nice. But there’s a lot better On the shelves

B & F is at least as good as most shelf beer, and in plenty of cases, it’s better. And the quality is consistent. Can’t say the same for some of the more “juicy” breweries out there.

Given the preference of driving 2hrs for a decent ipa or 5 minutes to the local liquor store for many comparable beers, I’ll take the short trip.

nothing wrong with the beer. Nothing special warranting a 4 hr round trip.

I think @Stormfield was taking exception with this part...
not the amount of driving that had to be done.

Yup. And the whole juicy NEIPA attitude that I thought reached its peak in 2018.
