Can't say I ever have. I won't really drink out of a bottle (cans are okiedokie if I'm on the go), but a solo cup is good enough for me if I'm out with others.

If I know I'm going to have to drink out of plastic or something like juice glass at their house, I either will not bring any craft beer, or I would bring my own glass.

I have a buddy who made me a hand blown tulip glass and his twin brother made me a padded, felt lined birdseye maple case for it.

: Any clean glass will do, especially an old McDonald's Hamburglar glass.

I have a couple times when going to a friend's house knowing we were going to be busting into several big 22's, and the number of people out-numbered the number of snifters he had. And I asked if he wanted me to before I did so.

I would never, ever, ever casually bring a glass to anything where it hadn't been explicitly asked. Especially a single glass for my own personal use. it absolutely reeks of beer elitism.

On a related note: I went to a party once and some guy had brought a bottle of Abyss. He walked around all night drinking it and did not offer a single other guest even a taste. I've never identified with the "just drink a damn bud" crowd so much in my life.

Depends on the situation and the beer in question. But I generally don't hang out with people who get offended at the fact I brought a snifter and won't be using their shaker pint. Those don't sound like people I'd want to hang out with anyway.

All kidding aside, no I wouldn't.

I'm a big wine drinker as well, and of course using proper glassware is really a big deal in the wine culture. A number of companies have made some serious change creating proper shaped/sized glass for every varietal (Riedel being the most obvious example). That being said, I have NEVER brought my own wine glass to a wine event, and can't imagine ever doing such a thing. Sometimes that's resulted in a particular wine being served in what I felt was a less than appropriate stemware, but so what? The wine always smells and tastes pretty damn good, no matter what the glass, and I would never want to run the risk of offending my host.

It's the same with beer. Yes, maybe that glass of Dupont saison would look, smell and taste a bit better in a proper tulip, but it's hardly going to taste like poison in a Dixie cup either. This is one area where I'm happy to just "suck it up," and drink my beer out of whatever type of glassware my host provides.

.... and yes, I realize that 99% of the time, my host or hosts could probably care less (if I brought my own glass). Still wouldn't do it.

Nah. I don't really have any close friends who drink exclusively non-craft beer (there's "mostly/entirely craft" friends and "both craft and macro" friends and "no beer at all" friends, but no macro-only, at least not any I know well enough to expect to randomly be invited over by), but even if I did, most people -- beer drinkers or not -- have some sort of glass in their cabinet, even if it's not a beer-specific one. I know I drank my first Stone IPA out of an old E.T. glass at my mom's house, and it was just as good as the ones I had in my pint glasses back home later -- any glass/cup is better than none at all. Even a red plastic cup is probably going to be a lot better than straight-from-the-bottle just because you can smell the beer that way, since smell and taste are so closely connected and all.

I'd rather not drink straight out of the bottle/can if I can avoid it, but most good beer is still going to be pretty good from the bottle/can, even if it's not as great as it would've been from a glass.

I wouldn't. Only time I have brought cups was when bringing Homebrew to share I have a series of little sample cups to distribute and share.

Considering I drank a Backwoods Bastard straight out of the bottle at a recent party, I'd have to say no. The thought of bringing my own glass, let alone a specialized glass like a tulip, to any party has never crossed my mind.

Nope. I grab a shaker pint if available, if not drink from the bottle or can.

A minor inconvenience easily outweighs making a friend or host feel like I'm too good for his glass selection or lack there of.

I do not. Most non-craft drinkers will have a wineglass I can use. If not... it's just one night and a few beers. If you don't have proper glassware that one time, well... you probably will survive.

If I go to my non craft drinking friends place I just take what I know they drink usually budweiser/light. When they come to my house I try and share my crafts with them

A pint glass is fine----or even the bottle. I'll reserve the more serious work for home.....now if they somehow pull out a Thomas Hardy's that was laying around in the fridge for a decade I might reconsider, but a simple glass is fine.

I brought my own glass to a bar I used to be a regular at because they only had shakers. The bartender kept it stashed away just for me

No, I think it would be considered a poor etiqutte to bring your own glassware to a party/friend's house/place of business.

For everyone saying they wont drink out of a plastic cup, why not just drink out of the bottle or can? It won't kill you to do so every once in awhile.

Nah - I'll use any reasonable glassware on hand or just drink from the bottle/can.
