A friend of mine is headed to Montreal for the weekend, and he told me he was bringing back some Du De Ciel. I asked him whether or not he wanted to take the risk of being searched at the border crossing, and he claims he's gone to Montreal multiple times and has never been searched. However, since he is only 20 years old, I worry that this is not a good idea.

Any thoughts on how risky this would be? Is he likely to be searched if he is alone? And what would be the consequences if he was searched and beer was found in his vehicle?

I know this isn't a strictly beer related topic, but I want that I don't have to drive up to the border to bail him out of custody or anything like that.

    Thanks

My thoughts don't worry. If he lies to the border guard there is a problem, if he tells the truth the worst is he will have to do is pay duty. At the border a little bit of honesty goes a long way.

Since he's only 20, i'm assuming honesty is out the window? Not a good idea to sneak back beer being underage.

Exactly. I assume a 20 year old cannot legally import beer in to the US. Never lie to border guards, it could cause your friend to be flagged and searched every time he crosses the border for the rest of his life. Also, if he's caught lying, the beer would be confiscated anyway.
