I am visiting Niagara Falls next week and I am thinking of trying a couple of breweries on the Canadian side while I am there. What are the laws for bringing beer back into the US if I find a brewery I really like?
You won't have any trouble at all. You have an exemption of 1 liter per adult (supposedly but they never seem to care much). Worst case scenario, you'll have to pay duties on everything over 1L. I never have had to going into the US. I've had to one time in dozens of crossings into Canada, almost always with ridiculous amounts of beer. When they ask if you have anything to declare at the border tell them you have some beer. Don't go too nuts with details. They'll ask if they're curious. If you wanna be really safe hold on to your receipts in case you have to pay duties (which you likely won't). Honestly paying isn't the end of the world, either. You basically will have to pay the amount you would have paid in tax on the purchase in the other country for the beer that exceeds the exemption. The only "trouble" I've ever had going into the US is that the lady looked at my beer and made a vaguely judgy remark about me having our beverage situation taken care of lol. Good luck! https://www.cbp.gov/travel/international-visitors/know-before-you-visit/customs-duty-information
Also for some context to assuage your concerns, my first overseas trip at 18 I brought back multiple liters of German beer. When I was on the plane back to the US I realized, "Oh, fuck, I'm not 21." When I got to customs I told the guy I had beer. He carded me. He said, "and they're all gifts, right?" I said yes and he let me right through. Didn't even look at the beer. And I was a pretty scuzzy-looking longhair at that point in time. You'll be good!
